Game Storyline

There is an ancient planet at the center of the LEGO Multiverse inhabited by an evil mastermind, Lord Vortech. It is said that he who controls the Foundational Elements that this planet is built upon, controls all of the Multiverse. Lord Vortech has vowed to be that ruler, summoning characters from a variety of LEGO worlds to help him find these building bricks of LEGO civilization. Some have agreed. Others have rebelled. And only the combined powers of the greatest LEGO heroes can stop him.

My wife and I played several of the lego games and got 100% for them all... They cost us roughly between $20 - $40 and inluded 100+ characters... In order to get more characters, you need to buy the physical character expansion. That being said, I paid around $40 for the starter and another $260 for a bunch of expansions that I wanted. The good thing was that unlike other purchases I make, the wife was okay with it since this is the one type of game that we can share enjoyment with together. So here are some of the positives:
1) Love being able to play with different characters in different dimensions. For example, the joker is the boss in the Simpsons base game level
2) Once you buy an expansion, you get the open world for that character. So far we've only checked out the back to the future world and it is massive with all three movies
3) Ghostbusters. Need I say more?
4) The physical mini figures and vehicles are actually pretty cool. Considering how expensive legos are anyway, it's a bonus to get the figures. With many places now offering the sets at half price, it really isn't too much of a difference compared to normal lego sets.
5) I love when you put on a character that on screen instructions come up for their corresponding vehicle
6) I was wondering what you do with all the coins. In other lego games, you buy characters and vehicles. Being that this one you need the expansion packs, I like how you can upgrade the vehicles so the coins still have a purpose.
7) While we leave the physical characters on the base, you don't have to do that. If you look around on ebay you can just buy the bases to save on some money
8) If you don't want to buy some characters, there's an option to "rent" them in the game for 50,000 coins (not real money). We've done this a few times to avoid buying characters we didn't want to use all the time.

Some drawbacks:
1) Being that you are moving characters around all the time, you need to physically do this with the base. The cord is about 7 feet long, but doesn't reach our couch. That being said, I bought a 10 foot usb extension cord. From what I've read online, it should work.
2) When you rent a character, it's only for 30 seconds at a time. I wish they would charge me more of the in game coins for a longer period of time.. perhaps a minute.
3) Unless I am missing something, there is no 100% to keep track of. You can see how many minikits, red bricks, coins per world, etc. that you've collected though.

Overall, I kept saying I wasn't going to buy this game because the expansion packs make it so expensive. However, after playing for roughly 5 hours, I'm already in love with it. My wife and I both are really enjoying it. Yes, it's a lot of money, but we just bought a bunch of the expansions as we see how cool the game really is. I'm happy we took the chance and bought the original set.

I am very glad I got this game. It is fun. Fun to play, fun to watch and fun to build. The Starter Pack comes with 3 characters (Batman from the Lego Batman series, Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Series, and WyldStyle from the Lego Movie). I had fun putting the minifigs and their gadgets together. The instructions that are built into the game are very easy to follow and execute. The kits that are re-configurable all come with the spare parts to make the changes. Playing through the basic story level that is the game part of the starter pack shows you just how big the Lego world has become. It also points out what everyone has been saying. If you really want to complete everything in every level you will end up buying at the very least all the level packs at $24 - $30 per pack. You can bypass some of that by buying the Fun Packs or Team Packs but even then it can really add up. I have been really digging into what each character does to see where the overlaps are. There are very few actions that can only be completed by a single character. For example the only character that can break Rainbow walls (you'll know them as soon as you see them) is Lego Unikitty from the Lego Movie. The bonus with her is that you get her car which converts to a version that sprays water. There are some areas that have puzzels that can only be solved with a water spraying character or machine. If you take your time and really look around you can find what you need.

The only problems I have had so far is remembering to watch the actual platform that comes with the game. the three areas on it change color or flash indicating that you need to move the figures around or add a figure or put several figures on the same area of the pad. They are kind of real world puzzles that advance the action in the game. My 8 year old grandson figured the colors out and what they meant right away so that really made me feel old when I got stuck and he said, Papa just put WyldStyle on the Purple, Batman on the grey and Gandalf on the yellow, without even breaking a sweat.

I would recommend this game to anyone who already likes the Lego games and wants more from each level. Being able to bring characters from any level into the level that you are playing really adds to the game and makes it feel like you are really playing Lego. Which is all about using imagination and putting things together in new and fun ways.

I hope that some day they will add a minifig building kit and a vehicle building kit so that you can really have fun making your own playable characters and vehicles.

I built this with the kids using a manual i grabbed online. I thought the 3 year old already took the manual and flushed it down the toilet. Took forever cuz i have 3 kids. when i put in the game then i find out the game starts with the instructions to build it screen by screen. Doh. Otherwise great game but it's really advanced... even my 8 year old was having a hard time passing stages. And it started becoming too challenging for me even. I am a person who can beat Contra on NES with 1 life. No joke. Maybe i'm not keeping up with the times. Anyhoo lots of fun for the entire family.

En mi familia, a todos nos gustan los juegos de lego. Este juego tiene el extra de que hay que interactuar de vez en cuando con los muñecos de lego (e incluso armar de vez en cuando).

El gancho, por si no lo imaginabas, es que necesitas de otros personajes para completar algunas sub-misiones o encontrar los tipicos items de cada mundo, lo cual te pone la tentación de comprar toda la colección (que crece cada medio año o algo así). Afortunadamente puedes "alquilar" la ayuda de algunos de ellos con dinero lego (studs), pero no siempre.

Por el precio al que lo compramos, y lo que lo ha disfrutado mi familia, creo que fue una buena compra.

Tip: Dentro del juego compra primero el lego rojo de el señor de los anillos. Toma tiempo juntar los "studs" necesarios, pero es un X2 que luego te hará la vida más fácil.
