撮影状況次第で天使にも悪魔にもなるレンズ
ペンタックスのK3-MarkⅢで使用しています、テレコンは無し。1枚目が近い、2枚目が中間、3枚目が遠いです。目に見えて解像度が違いますので参考になれば幸いです。せっかく500mmあるのにこんな言い方は本末転倒ですが「近ければ戦える（できれば晴天）」というのが1年近く使用した率直な感想です。他の方が仰っている様に500一杯にズームするとボケた写りになるので実質450と思った方が良いです。ペンタックス使いならばこれで妥協するのも仕方無い部分がありますが他のレンズを豊富に選べるメーカーをお持ちであればこのレンズを購入する必要性は限り無く低いかと。安くて程度が良い個体が見つかれば望遠入門としてのお試し購入で割り切れるのなら有りかも知れません。色々と辛辣な意見を述べましたがバシッと撮れる事もありますのでコンスタントにとはいきませんが充分に楽しめるレンズだとは個人的には思っています。少し甘いかも知れませんが満点で！

OK background over thanks to a suprise cheque in the post I treated myself to this, a true all round lens with an unbelievable zoom range, it must have flaws right?
Well yes it does but very few and very small, I will start at the good bearing in mind I have been out for a short walk with it. The build quality is excellent, very robust nice positive zoom action, solid feeling to it all, just really well put toogether. Operation is quiet and focus is quick, suprisingly quick and accurate. images through the viewfinder are bright and sharp. Taking photos with this is easy, that zoom range allows such a great choice of shot, tight zoom to landscape anything you want and to top it all at around 200mm you can manage an almost macro short focus, I know its not proper macro but the results are very pleasing. But the very best bit is that it is sharp, oh I didn't realise that I'd cut myself sharp and appears to be at both ends of its range even without the OS switched on. Pics will be posted on here.
Now the bad points, the good news is apart from the price which is a lot of money worth every penny and cheap compared to other lenses but still its a big chunk of cash, there is only one real bad point, and its not a suprise its a big heavy lens, a very big lens, comes with a nice carry case, but its big. The weight is manageable, I am a big bloke and like a good weighty feel to my equipment like the D2x, I can hold this steady at 500mm without trouble and it sits well with a strap connected to the lens foot. But I think for some it will require a tripod or monopod to keep it still. Thats just a word of warning and if you read any reviews before buying anywhere on the web weight is mentioned and I can't knock off a star for something that is so obviously down to build quality and the amount of glass inside.
So this might well be that Holy Grail of lenses the 'Do-everything' lens, well maybe although 50mm isn't very short and its a big piece of kit, I can not see any reason why I will need new glass for a long time.
I will keep you posted on what it is like when I use it properly but this is a seriously good piece of kit and the closest Nikon lens I can see is the 80-400 which is a couple of hundred pound more expensive and has a smaller zoom range. If you want a lens that will do portrait, wildlife, sports, landscape then this is it, the all rounder and worth every penny.
Update: Been outr a few more times now and I have to say that every time I review my pictures I am stunned by the sharpness and clarity of the image. I seem to be using the lens more to take photos of insects and flowers almost macro style as you can get a good focus on something 2 or 3 feet away and the results are stunning, but really there are no worries about this lens at all, excellent build great results, I will be off doing a music festival this weekend so this will be the Big test for it, but looking at what has been produced so far, not worried. I have noticed an increase in the number of likes on Facebook and Flickr, its not that the lens takes a great photo, thats my job, but it is certainly helping the results and allowing a much greater range of shot to be taken with a single lens. Great.
BTW is Cockermouth Rock Festival and I will put a few pics up here just to show you how it comes out :)
***** Further update-
I have4 had this lens for just about 12 months now, its rarely been off the camera, it has been excellent on the D700 and is now being just as excellent on the D800, these FX Nikons seem to work exceptionally well with the lens and the results are sharp and rich, considering the flexibility and price of this lens its worth every penny.
