I was able to easily assemble and install this unit
5 Stars
I was able to easily assemble and install this unit
I was able to easily assemble and install this unit. It is surprisingly quiet. Setting up is easy to do. Follow the instructions precisely, look carefully at pictures to position the parts for assembly on the garage floor for simple easy assembly. The old Genie opener was mounted to brackets mounted on the drywall which seemed to be not as tight fit over time. I mounted a 2x4 on the drywall at the front (above garage door) and at the rear location (where motor mounts). My installation is strong, vibration free, quiet and easily programmed the features of this opener.

This garage door opener is very quiet and works effortlessly to raise the 9'x8' insulated garage door we have. We did have an existing unit so this was a replacement to a 25 year old Genie garage door opener. We replaced everything but had an idea on how to put it together with the preexisting unit as a guide. This was the first garage door opener my husband and I have ever installed but we are a little savvy with DIY projects so we were able to get this installed in 3 hours (breaks and chasing a 1 year old included). A few places the instructions weren't really clear become self explanatory once you see the problem and it is a quick 5 minute fix and you continue on with the install. Setting the sensors was a breeze. We hit the wrong button when programming the sensors so our remotes that came preset to the unit became "unset" so we learned how to set them and that was super quick and easy too. We've used this unit for a couple weeks now and find it quiet, quick response time when you hit the garage door opener (whether remote or hardwired button). I'm very glad we purchased this unit and will update if anything comes up. The reviews for this product are what convinced us this was the one to go with and I hope my review helps too. Price was awesome as well.

Great door opener, one glitch. I replaced a 20 year old opener with this. The way our house is situated, the garage seems to have taken on the roll of the front door. I have 2 teenagers that always forget to close the door. The auto close feature was one of the points that drew me to this. It works perfectly as described. I set mine for 5 minutes and it works perfectly! I don't have to worry about the door being open all day or night any longer. The remote seems to have a fairly long range.I can get the door open from about 1/2 block away. For a chain driven opener, it is much quieter than my last unit. The only downside was that it would not work with my home-link in my 2012 Toyota Highlander as there was some sort of change between the 2 systems that did not get corrected until 2013. You would have to buy a repeater and mount in your garage to use the home-link.

If it had been compatible with my old keyless entry keypad I would have given it five stars. Good opener. I replaced an OLD 1/3 hp Sears with this, because I could not add photo eye safety sensors to the old opener.
The opener has to open an 18 foot wooden door that weighs A LOT and it handles it just fine. Auto close works on ten minute setting but does not seem to work on the 1 minute setting. No problem adding my 2014 Toyota built-in opener to the system, and I added a wireless keypad (which really OUGHT to have been included in the kit, IMHO.
Installation went well. No problems whatever. It is certainly quieter and smoother than the old beast of an opener, but that is a mixed blessing, because the noise used to alert me that the door was operating!
Motion sensor works well, as does auto-reverse and photo eye sensors. I had a bit of a glitch with the door stopping and reversing for no apparent reason, but I realigned the photo eyes (even though the LED indicators were showing no problem). This solved the problem with closing since then. I put LED bulbs in the unit and there has been no interference with the remotes or anything, which the instructions indicated might happen.

So far so good. Directions for install I thought were very good and simple - except there were two gliches that costs me about an hour to figure out on my own and made me call the help line to confirm I was right and the directions were wrong. One - when I attached the arm bar to the trolley the entire trolley{both pieces} have to be together at the location where connected with pin and clevis ring. The trolley separates and the outside piece moves freely along rail - I was under impression from the directions to just slide the outer part to the location necessary. Later when I was ready to start door for first time - I realized (before I pushed the button) that they needed to be attached together - so I had to loosen the chain and manually move it around the gear box and re-align chain in the correct location - from on my ladder since the opener was all bolted in already.
Second - the directions had the curved "L" arm bar that attaches from the trolley to the door in the wrong/opposite direction in the manual. My old opener was on the floor of my garage and the arm was in opposite direction than I had put the new one according to the manual. I figured - "well this new model must just be redesigned and different". But when I tried to raise the door manually it would not go up more than 8 inches or so. I called the help line and a very nice lady confirmed with me that the manual(that came with opener in the box) was incorrect - but the "on line" manual was correct. So be careful - because I feel if I would of pushed the "on" button with this bar backwards - it may have done some damage to the door or the rail and trolley of the opener.
And lastly - although the direction are very detailed and explain step by step quite easily - it still took me probably 20+ hours to complete the installation. But - now that I have done it for the first time- I feel confidant that I could do it in just a few hours. So give yourself plenty of time and patience or like my wife said ( and not very nicely - after my entire weekend plus...) - JUST PAY THE DAM $150.00 AND BE DONE WITH IT.... But there comes a point when I have put soo much time into a project, like this one, that a man will not be beaten - and has to finish it!! AND I DID - now every time I push my button and that "son of a b%$#@" opens - I just smile inside and say to myself - "that's right you Pri*%$" I mastered you!! :)
