It has design defects but I still recommend it
I am currently in the process of repairing my X52. I bought it in August of 2017 and it broke beyond use on January 6 2018. Because Steam tracks your hours and I only use this with Elite:Dangerous, I know it broke at about 1008 hours of play. The first failure was when the throttle detent came partially out and jammed the throttle. Easily fixed. The failure I am fixing now is broken wires in the stick. Saitek has used solid core wire on a moving part! Never do that! It should be stranded wire. It is very difficult to work on the stick and I am not sure I will be able to reassemble it... but I tested my patch using the X52 HOTAS control panel where you can see what control is activating. One green wire took out most of the buttons and all the LEDs except for power. The X, Y and yaw were still functioning without the green wire. I am hopeful, but I plan on buying an X52 Pro and use this one as a backup.Despite the weaknesses and poor wire choices, I still recommend this HOTAS if you cannot swing the cost of the X52 Pro. These are the definitive HOTAS controls for Elite:Dangerous. You may have to "git gud" with a soldering iron to keep using it, but I am not convinced anything else is better built at this price. Maybe the new "G" model will fix the common issues?
