The Talented Mr. Rivers (Tough Love Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 332 ratings

HelenKay Dimon’s suspenseful, provocative series of double agents and dark desire continues with a novel featuring two men bound by a dangerous job—and by the cravings they feel for each other.

As the son of an international crime lord, Will Rivers only inherited one thing after his father died: trouble. The Pentasus organization deals in kidnapping and murder, and Will wants no part of the power grab that’s tearing leadership apart. But the only way he’ll be able to escape is with some help from his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, whose sculpted body and brooding looks keep Will awake at night. Somehow, Hunter has resisted the tension between them . . . until, suddenly, he gives in.

As a German intelligence officer working deep undercover, Hunter has a very good reason to keep Will in the dark about his identity and his intentions. Although the sex is hot, Hunter’s true feelings are a growing liability. Now the only way to save Will from his old life is to push him deeper into danger. But when two strong men are each determined to protect the other, the heat isn’t just combustible—it’s a firestorm.

a passion and beauty I can’t resist.
4 Stars
a passion and beauty I can’t resist.
Once again Dimon offers another amazing M/M story which grabs your heart and makes it shore. I will never get tired of reading her irresistible guy relationships because they have a passion and beauty I can’t resist. The Talented Mr. Rivers is the second installment in the Tough Love series and although it can be read as a standalone, it’s not recommend it. It contains some moments and info from the first book, Mr. And Mr. Smith, and though they are explained, it’s better if you know them first hand. Besides, the story of Fisher and Zach in the first is also amazing and it would be a shame not to be read. But let’s get back to the couple at hand; Hunter & Will. Here’s the deal between these two. Will Rivers is one of the heirs of a criminal family and Hunter Cain is the undercover agent who plays his bodyguard. The attraction between them has begun before even than and keeps growing no matter the problems shown in the way. So, after one of these problems arose, these two had to go on separate paths which recross again further down. And that’s where everything started volute pretty quickly giving them no time to breathe; but plenty to get intimate and hot 😉"If Hunter wanted to stake a claim, this did it."Both Will and Hunter are two very tortured souls with a very tough upbringing. And they may be quite different but that’s what is makes their connection even stronger and their love even more consuming. And just like any other couple, they don’t get away easily from dealing with Life and her sometimes bitchiness. But they never subconsciously give up on each other and, along with the help of some significant characters, always get to find their way back to each other because as Hunter once said “I knew we were meant to be.”The plot is even more intense than the first one’s. I can’t say exactly what that was but it had something in it that made my heart raising like crazy. And, as for their erotic scenes? Well, I kind of felt them on my skin and my emotions varied after the end of each scene since as the story was progressing, so they did, adding each time a different, strong feeling in the mix.HelenKay Dimon is a quite new author to me but her writing and her mind has already captivated me and I rarely I will walk away from one of her books. Until now, both her books I have read have left me with the best impressions and I can’t wait to see which couple will add next in the series. I hope like h*ll to be Seth because he is one of those secondary characters who intrigues you more than the lead ones. I bet his story will be even more passionate and goosebumping. 😉

We met Will and Hunter briefly in M&MS, especially Hunter, who got Fisher’s back up repeatedly when Hunter referenced a few fun days he had spent with Zach, prior to Zach and Fisher finding each other.

Will, having survived the explosion of his family’s compound, is now hiding out in Paris. Hunter is desperate to find Will before the very bad guys who are also looking for him manage to locate him.

Agents from the first book show up to help Hunter with his task of saving Will. Seems Hunter has gone off the reservation from the BND, Germany’s CIA equivalent, in his mission to find Will. Seth, Zach and Fisher “convince” Hunter to let them help, while also trying to round up Will’s brother Peter and Will’s sister’s…arrangement…Gatt.

There is a lot of plot going on, interspersed with a lot of love story. There is no wasted space in TTMR. Every word counts. Personally, I love that. One of my personal pet peeves is a story that meanders pointlessly, trying to build up the word count. TTMR is the opposite of that.

Hunter’s history is teased out slowly over the course of the book, adding layer after layer to this complex character. He is sort of baffled by the depth of his feelings for Will, and watching his brain catch up to his heart was entertaining. Hunter is fiercely protective, super sexy and all alpha.

Will’s childhood is the thing of nightmares, ones in which your parent pits your siblings against each other, familial poisoning is not unheard of, and plots of revenge end in death. Will has stayed at the periphery of his family’s felonious dealings, but Hunter urges him to be part of the solution, in a truly inspired scene. Though he is young, Will is smart and capable. He continuously surprised Hunter and the other agents with his ability to stay calm under pressure.

Watching these two find their way to each other, and risk it all to reach for their happiness was terrific. Loved Will’s ability to accept Hunter the way he is. Loved Hunter pushing Will to consider all the angles, loved his fear of falling in love, loved when he finally accepted the inevitability of his and Will’s relationship.

Bottom line – A thoroughly engaging read, with a smart, intricate plot and a great love story. Book 2 in the series, The Talented Mr. Rivers picks up where Mr. and Mr. Smith left off. While the HEA’s and parts of the plot are standalone, I would recommend reading M&MS before this title, because of the overall arc of the storyline.

A copy of this title was provided by the publisher via Netgalley for the purpose of an honest review. I preordered this book as soon as it came up, and will purchase a copy when it is published.

3.5 and rounded up due to Amazon rating system. Well, it was a little confusing at times, as I tried to figure out what everybody had done, were doing, planned to do... Hunter and Will had been around each other for a while before the night Fisher and the CIA blew up the house in the last book. Hunter has tracked Will down and now they’re in a safe house, with unexpected neighbors and unwanted visitors. The story started strong, with action scenes that end up with Hunter, Will and a handy wall to hold them both up. Unfortunately, it then slowed way down for a large part of the book. It wasn’t boring, but it was largely dialogue, planning, meetings and a few more sex scenes that really weren’t that hot. Foreplay people, foreplay!

The time was also filled with Hunter and Will getting to know each other and judging the level of trust they had in each other. Hunter had a lot of self-questioning to do, since he wasn’t following orders by staying with Will. It’s not exactly romance but there’s a fair amount of emotion between them. It’s just included as part of clearing up Pentasus and exactly what Will’s part in that would be. I like it because it’s an action thriller, even though it wasn’t always that thrilling. Book one was better in some ways and I’m hoping for more from book three.

Part two of the CIA, BND and every other alphabet organizations attempt to take down the Rivers Family evil organization.
One family member is dead, Peter is missing, and Will is gone hiding until he can find a way to disappear and create a new identity and life away from the murdering empire. Hunter, who we met when the house blew up is searching for Will...
Dare I say " explosive " " nuclear ".....these two men beat Zach and Fischer in the explosive sexual encounter category.
The suspense is unrelenting and the potential for deceit and death high. Players are dangerous..... This story doesn't have a single boring second!
My only thought at the end is that we need Seth's story. The innuendo was there that perhaps there's a hot story awaiting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review on „The Talented Mr Rivers“ (Tough Love 02) by HelenKay Dimon
Reviewed in Germany on December 21, 2016
This time HelenKay Dimon has chosen two men, who seem calm on the outside but their attraction boiles like a hot volcanoe deep inside. Will Rivers is the youngest of 3 siblings around a mighty crime lord's organisation. After his father and sister were killed during the CIA raid, all is up in the air. Will his older brother Peter take over or is Will moving into a position of power within Pentasus? That is just one of many questions Hunter Cain has to find an answer to. He is the only undercover agent left inside the mysterious circle of kidnappers and killers ,determined not to blow his bodyguard cover. But Hunter also cannot deny his grwoing attraction to younger Will. First it seems it is just sexual desire they both give into once they meet in a secret Paris place again. With not all the cards of the game on the table Will grows frustrated. He realizes that by remaining silent, he already has picked a side and now is deeply intwined with the crimes he never wanted anything to do with. Hunter knows that his feelings for Will are deeper than mere sex. He wants to protect the young man he has fallen so hard for at all cost. But to do this he first must push him even deeper into danger.

There seems to be lesser action and more planing and discussing involved, but the plot is so complex, the MC s so charismatic and their feeling so sizzling intense, that it is nil to impossible to stop reading. The huge trust-isssue thing wears on the readers'nerves and we need to know, how the story will go on What a rushing emotional roller coaster untill the end! Can't wait for the next book and Seth's story now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Will and Hunter were very romantic!
Reviewed in Canada on September 17, 2016
Much better than Mr and Mr Smith. I could get a lot more emotionally connected to Will and Hunter’s romance than to Zach and Fisher’s. I love the positions Will and Hunter are in, one working for the German intelligence and cooperating with the CIA to bring down the Rivers’ Pentasus, all the while disguised as Will’s bodyguard; and the other being the youngest Rivers sibling, even though Will was never involved in any of the Pentasus’s work. So they were kind of enemies and allies at the same time; an intriguing situation.

The interactions between Hunter and Will were great too, with so much tension, uncertainty, mistrust, longing, and eventually caring and love. They were definitely not a straightforward couple! Their sex scenes were also less boring than the average sex scenes that I’ve read, so that was good. I liked that though there was instant attraction (and lust), the men spent tons of time together talking and just being in one another’s company as well; so the love and affection they later felt for each other were believable and satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed the love declaration scenes!

In addition, I really liked Will both as a person and as a character. I’m not sure why, but I just find him very awesome. Hunter was okay, though I did feel very sorry for him. I sympathized with Will more, though, since Will seemed to be even more alone than Hunter was. Neither of these protagonists were flat or simple characters, obviously. I loved Seth as well. He’s pretty funny, but very competent and focused at the same time. Fingers crossed that Seth will get his own romance in the future too!

The only thing I didn’t like that much about this book, was that the internal dialogue felt a bit excessive. It seems as though every line of dialogue is followed by a train of thought from the POV character, and this train of thought is often several paragraphs long, so it sometimes felt like the characters’ exchange was stretched to an unnecessary length.

Nevertheless, I loved this very much; Will and Hunter were very romantic!

I really liked the story, the interactions between the different protagonists seemed believable and well thought out, but I did have a problem withe the names of the protagonists, specially "Hunter". Who in his right mind would name a BND agent "Hunter". "Hunter" is not a german name and definitely not the name, a father who worked with the DDR government would give to his only son. In regards to his fathers history a traditional german name or maybe even a russian name would have been more plausible than "Hunter".

What more could you hope for. This is the second book belonging to Will the youngest River family member and Hunter. It was brilliantly written, how Will loved and equally feared his two older siblings. You actually could feel sorry for Peter towards the end and how they could have been a functional family. The romance between Hunter and Will was great and the story well written and paced. I hope there is book three with Seth. Only warning to get the best from the book you really need to read them in order and have read Zach and Fishers story first. Great series
