The Talented Mr. Rivers (Tough Love Book 2) Kindle Edition
As the son of an international crime lord, Will Rivers only inherited one thing after his father died: trouble. The Pentasus organization deals in kidnapping and murder, and Will wants no part of the power grab that’s tearing leadership apart. But the only way he’ll be able to escape is with some help from his former bodyguard, Hunter Cain, whose sculpted body and brooding looks keep Will awake at night. Somehow, Hunter has resisted the tension between them . . . until, suddenly, he gives in.
As a German intelligence officer working deep undercover, Hunter has a very good reason to keep Will in the dark about his identity and his intentions. Although the sex is hot, Hunter’s true feelings are a growing liability. Now the only way to save Will from his old life is to push him deeper into danger. But when two strong men are each determined to protect the other, the heat isn’t just combustible—it’s a firestorm.

Will, having survived the explosion of his family’s compound, is now hiding out in Paris. Hunter is desperate to find Will before the very bad guys who are also looking for him manage to locate him.
Agents from the first book show up to help Hunter with his task of saving Will. Seems Hunter has gone off the reservation from the BND, Germany’s CIA equivalent, in his mission to find Will. Seth, Zach and Fisher “convince” Hunter to let them help, while also trying to round up Will’s brother Peter and Will’s sister’s…arrangement…Gatt.
There is a lot of plot going on, interspersed with a lot of love story. There is no wasted space in TTMR. Every word counts. Personally, I love that. One of my personal pet peeves is a story that meanders pointlessly, trying to build up the word count. TTMR is the opposite of that.
Hunter’s history is teased out slowly over the course of the book, adding layer after layer to this complex character. He is sort of baffled by the depth of his feelings for Will, and watching his brain catch up to his heart was entertaining. Hunter is fiercely protective, super sexy and all alpha.
Will’s childhood is the thing of nightmares, ones in which your parent pits your siblings against each other, familial poisoning is not unheard of, and plots of revenge end in death. Will has stayed at the periphery of his family’s felonious dealings, but Hunter urges him to be part of the solution, in a truly inspired scene. Though he is young, Will is smart and capable. He continuously surprised Hunter and the other agents with his ability to stay calm under pressure.
Watching these two find their way to each other, and risk it all to reach for their happiness was terrific. Loved Will’s ability to accept Hunter the way he is. Loved Hunter pushing Will to consider all the angles, loved his fear of falling in love, loved when he finally accepted the inevitability of his and Will’s relationship.
Bottom line – A thoroughly engaging read, with a smart, intricate plot and a great love story. Book 2 in the series, The Talented Mr. Rivers picks up where Mr. and Mr. Smith left off. While the HEA’s and parts of the plot are standalone, I would recommend reading M&MS before this title, because of the overall arc of the storyline.
A copy of this title was provided by the publisher via Netgalley for the purpose of an honest review. I preordered this book as soon as it came up, and will purchase a copy when it is published.
The time was also filled with Hunter and Will getting to know each other and judging the level of trust they had in each other. Hunter had a lot of self-questioning to do, since he wasn’t following orders by staying with Will. It’s not exactly romance but there’s a fair amount of emotion between them. It’s just included as part of clearing up Pentasus and exactly what Will’s part in that would be. I like it because it’s an action thriller, even though it wasn’t always that thrilling. Book one was better in some ways and I’m hoping for more from book three.
One family member is dead, Peter is missing, and Will is gone hiding until he can find a way to disappear and create a new identity and life away from the murdering empire. Hunter, who we met when the house blew up is searching for Will...
Dare I say " explosive " " nuclear ".....these two men beat Zach and Fischer in the explosive sexual encounter category.
The suspense is unrelenting and the potential for deceit and death high. Players are dangerous..... This story doesn't have a single boring second!
My only thought at the end is that we need Seth's story. The innuendo was there that perhaps there's a hot story awaiting.

There seems to be lesser action and more planing and discussing involved, but the plot is so complex, the MC s so charismatic and their feeling so sizzling intense, that it is nil to impossible to stop reading. The huge trust-isssue thing wears on the readers'nerves and we need to know, how the story will go on What a rushing emotional roller coaster untill the end! Can't wait for the next book and Seth's story now!
The interactions between Hunter and Will were great too, with so much tension, uncertainty, mistrust, longing, and eventually caring and love. They were definitely not a straightforward couple! Their sex scenes were also less boring than the average sex scenes that I’ve read, so that was good. I liked that though there was instant attraction (and lust), the men spent tons of time together talking and just being in one another’s company as well; so the love and affection they later felt for each other were believable and satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed the love declaration scenes!
In addition, I really liked Will both as a person and as a character. I’m not sure why, but I just find him very awesome. Hunter was okay, though I did feel very sorry for him. I sympathized with Will more, though, since Will seemed to be even more alone than Hunter was. Neither of these protagonists were flat or simple characters, obviously. I loved Seth as well. He’s pretty funny, but very competent and focused at the same time. Fingers crossed that Seth will get his own romance in the future too!
The only thing I didn’t like that much about this book, was that the internal dialogue felt a bit excessive. It seems as though every line of dialogue is followed by a train of thought from the POV character, and this train of thought is often several paragraphs long, so it sometimes felt like the characters’ exchange was stretched to an unnecessary length.
Nevertheless, I loved this very much; Will and Hunter were very romantic!
