My retired mother needed a printer for her desk for the infrequent document here or there that she may need to print out. This was the cheapest one. I bought it.
Surprise, it's actually a pretty darn good printer. Quality and fit & finish are just as good as the high dollar Epson printers I looked at in the local Staples. Design and looks wise, it's a very attractive piece, with touches of matte and gloss black here and there. The screen is a cool feature and is easy to read and navigate through. Setup was a breeze (as it should be for anyone installing a printer in this day and age). The included install software worked well and didn't include a bunch of bloatware, which in itself made me happy.
Print quality is average for an ink-jet printer. Colors are vivid and blacks are black. The printer spools up quick and docs print quick, printer software isn't clunky or obtrusive. Copy function works well and could prove useful. Overall, it's exactly what you'd expect a $50 ink-jet printer to be. How reliable and trouble free it will remain after a few years, we shall see. I am confident in it and don't regret the purchase at all. Its doing its job nicely.
Yes, I bought it for several different reasons.
1. It is light weight.
2. It doesn't take up much space.
3. It was all in one and what I really wanted to use was the scanner component.
4. It is wireless.
5. It was a good price.
Why I wish I hadn't bought this model.
1. If you run out of ink, it will not let you use any other option available. Not even scan. When I called Epson and asked them was a way I could use the scan option without replacing the ink...at first they said yes, and then after doing everything they said, about 20min later, I was told that I had to replace the ink and that I was not able to use any option when the ink was out. Really? Ink has nothing to do with scanning so I don't understand why that is.
2. It prints a lot slower than my old school HP printer. If you are not in a hurry and have several minutes to spare...it's okay, but if you need to print and go...it isn't worth it.
3. The ink cartridge and the replacements are okay for the price, but considering they run out really quick...you end up replacing them a lot more than you should have to.
4. The picture printing is not good at all. Save your time and money and just go to a picture printer in town and print your pictures there because you will not be happy with the outcome.
5. There is NO two sided printing. I thought that today...all printers would come with that option. I guess you could print two sided if you wanted to flip the paper over and refeed through for the back side but...I wouldn't necessarily do that.
6. No fax option
So...if I could go back and choose another printer...I most definitely would and I will be ordering me a new All In One and making sure it does everything I need it to do before clicking buy now. Hope this helps everyone out. Have a nice day.
This is my honest review of the product.
This week's XP-430 challenge was to scan several multipage documents, including an 11-page title insurance policy. Again the instructions were incomplete, even those I found on the Web and You Tube. So I'm pasting here my detailed instructions on how to scan to a Mac from trial, error and success.
1. Go to Mac computer Settings
2. Open Printer
3. Click “scan”
4. Click “open scanner”
5. Place document on scanner screen; close lid.
6. Select "kind," "scan to," and "format."
7. Choose pdf format (the only format that combines multis into one document)
8. Check box for “combine into single document.” In "Name" field, insert a name for the document.
9. Click “overview.” Image of document will appear on computer screen. Using mouse pad, adjust the dotted lines to enclose the document text within the dotted lines. What is outside lines will not be scanned.
10. Once certain all text is within the lines, click “scan.”
11. After computer screen says “saving image” and scanner quiets, remove scanned document and place second page on scanner screen.
12. Click "overview." Review overview image to ensure all data is within the lines.
13. Click "scan."
14. Continue process until all document pages are scanned.
15. On Mac, click “Finder” on menu bar. The scanned document will be at the top of the list. Click it and ensure all pages are scanned as desired.
16. Now save the document to your documents.
17. Delete scanned imagfrom “Finder."

If I could've given it a 4.5, I would've. My ONLY qualm is that it's a bit slow to scan but not enough for me to want to return it. For the price, you really can't go wrong!
Very happy with the purchase as it highly suits my home office needs.
However the price of the ink is expensive and don't last long. Remanufactured ink cartridges are iffy because the machine can tell the difference by the chips and would reject the non-OEM. You cannot have the original cartridges refilled because of the chip as well.
Machine failed after 1 year of light use. No red ink coming through. Changing the cartridge did not correct.
