Many of the color are very similar. Being generous, it's more like 24 colors. It was a challenge to get any amount of color onto the set of watercolor brushes I also bought. I made a swatch page on heavy, toothy watercolor paper (attached)A friend explained that pan watercolors have a lot of binder in them, and these don't have much pigment. They're "okay" but I recommend buying 3-5 watercolor tubes, in the primaries. Then you can mix all the colors and they will have more pigment in them. These could be frustrating for someone trying to learn how to paint in watercolor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love for coloring books!
Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2016
For the money, these can't be beat! I am a watercolorist and normally use professional grade paints but lately, I have been bitten with the "adult coloring book" craze for relaxation at bedtime. I don't really want to fuss about with mixing colors too much for that and so I purchased these Artist's Loft pans at a great price on Amazon. They are highly pigmented and produce brilliant colors on the paper. I do use them with a water-brush on regular coloring books and have had no problems, however, I do select books with images on only one side of the page. They have a great assortment of colors and are a good range for coloring books if that is what you are considering. For more permanent art work, I will stick to my M Graham and W&N paints, but for hobby or practice or student work, these are very nice. Delivered very fast and packaged well. I've attached a photo of the first "coloring" I did with these paints.
