Books read in this series we’ve loved and the beauty of each one is they can be read as standalones. Ms Cosway has woven a suspenseful tale in Thief of Hearts which kept us on our toes while trying to guess how it was all going to pan out. Saying that, we recommend going in blind since we did feel that the blurb let on a tad.
“One of these days, luv, you’re gonna let me kiss you again, everywhere.”
Set in London, the author pulled the Cockney lingo off to a tee; however, we were a little saddened to see her use a few Americanisms at the beginning of the book. Don’t get us wrong! We have absolutely nothing against them but we didn’t think they were very fitting seeing that she could have used Brit English equivalents. The ‘City’ feeling has been captured perfectly, the story’s characters’ personalities are diverse, well-developed and we couldn’t help falling for Stu Cross, the male protagonist.
“One thing for sure: Stu Cross wasn’t as predictable as I thought. . .”
We can’t possibly spill the beans because the entanglement in this intricate plot has to be savoured for yourselves. What we can do is tell you how we felt about Stu and how he had us completely fooled! Stu hasn’t been around for a while. He’d ‘copped a flower pot’ (got into trouble), and getting back into the swing of things isn’t as easy as he thought it would be. Gravelly-voiced, his East End accent is not only very close to home, but seeing it so well expressed was blinkin’ marvellous. Sarky comebacks and his gorgeous looks get everyone turning their heads when he has something to say. But his self-esteem is on a low and ‘Friar Tuck’… luck, hasn’t been a good friend to him, either. We weren’t the only ones to feel sorry for this moody guy. He caught our attention from word go and that of Andie’s, too.
“I never realised I was so transparent.”
“You’re not. I’ve just been looking real close.”
Andrea (Andie) Anderson has a compassionate soul. Feisty and hard-working, her positive vibes encourage those around her. Being in control of what appears to be quite an orderly and ordinary life and solving an almighty problem right on her doorstep is all she wants. Even though putting others before herself is second nature, at times we thought she was a tad over the top and this made us worry about her well-being. Yet it was difficult not to invest our feeling in her when what made her happy was lending a hand!
“You don’t have to deflect. There’s no judgement here.”
“I’m not deflecting, Miss Anderson, I’m flirting.”
Andie discovers a few things about Stu. Behind his cocky Cockney veneer, he’s emotionally closed off. But something special draws her attention which can’t possibly be ignored. Persuading him to take a step further isn’t going to be an easy task. Once she’s convinced him that he’s more than capable, these two unlikely young adults are thrown together on a more personal level. Mixing business with pleasure is the cause of unrest though. We truly thought this was an excellent idea on Andie’s part. She’d been clinging to a memory we yearned for her to let go. Scared s***less, we silently urged her to dive in headfirst regardless of what could or could not be. We were convinced this was her once in a lifetime opportunity; what we didn’t bargain on was Stu blowing hot and cold every five minutes. All the signals are wrong. . . yep, to say Stu is confused would be putting it lightly. So observing how Andie peeled back the layers of his complex personality and how she came to terms with her past was actually what we loved more about their story!
“. . .just be my soft place to fall. I need you, Andrea.”
The chemistry between these two was clear to see from the very start of their relationship; nevertheless, it’s very slow boil since both of them have their reasons to hold back. When they do take a step further, the amorous scenes are explicit. Say no more!
“I’m trying to warn you to stay away from me. I’m no good for you, Andrea. Please remember that, because next time I try to touch you, if you let me, I won’t stop.”
More than one spanner is thrown into the works as the plot thickens, family members become involved and backgrounds clash. We loved Andie’s parents, her cousin . . . bless him with all his hang-ups and Stu’s family are your typical East Ender clan who look out for each other. In fact, most of the characters are lovely. Of course, the baddies are as they should be, dislikable!
“. . . What the hell have I been thinking?”
“I doubt your brain had much to say in the matter.”
“What? Too early for jokes?”
Now then, our rating. We honestly felt that it needed editing in certain areas which would have made this book the perfect read for us; however, we understand this could be a personal opinion and may not bother other readers. We’ll most definitely be keen to read future books by Ms Cosway because she has a knack for telling a great storyline and brilliant character development.

Thief of Hearts: Hearts Series Book 5 Kindle Edition
Seduce the teacher.
Meet the cousin.
Make a deal.
Steal the painting.
Andrea Anderson has no clue of the thoughts churning around in the dark and dangerous ex-con’s head as he enters her classroom. In fact, she’s momentarily lost for words. Not in her entire teaching career has she had a student who looked quite like Stu Cross.
A widow at just twenty-eight, love is something Andie hasn’t considered a part of her life for a very long time. However, when lingering touches turn to whispered words and hot, searching stares, she begins to wonder if maybe she should take a leap of faith.
But Stu is in her class for a reason, and it has nothing to do with love. He’s there to burrow his way into her life and repay a debt, otherwise his family will suffer. Andie is the first person to show him true kindness since he left prison, and though he doesn’t want to mislead her, he doesn’t have another choice.
Before long, Stu can’t tell whether or not he’s acting anymore, and his feelings for Andie could throw all of his carefully crafted plans into complete and utter disarray.

I'm sorry to say this novel just didn't do it for me. I didn't feel the chemistry, at all, between the two protagonists, despite the somewhat explicit sex scenes.
In many ways, the plot was contrived and unlikely.

Clever, entertaining and full of swoon! Another winner from L.H.!

L.H. Cosway has another winner. As a fan of this series I was looking forward to this and this moved into one of the top spots for sure. I It was smart, witty, and sexy and I loved every minute. I was captivated by the twist and turns of the plot. Clever, amusing and entertaining. The story telling is wonderful and will hold you till the last page.
Andie is a adult education teacher and one day a new student arrives in fresh out of prison Stu Cross. It took me sometime to Stu, I blame shoddy memory. After all he was previously mentioned and not so well liked then. Regardless can still e read as a stand alone, just know he's the eldest Cross brother and took the fall for an illegal car business before. This not your typical student teacher romance either, Stu and Andie's has more layers and a different take on the trope.
" Even when you give up on yourself I won't give up on you. "
At first glance these two are polar opposites, the outspoken bad boy meets the conservative mild mannered teacher. Stu is a lot more than meets eye though, beneath his gruff exterior, brooding and hard exterior. A lot more in depth, intelligence, big heart and family guy. Andie stopped living when her first love passed away a few years ago. Still she remains kind, vulnerable and open hearted. But this student of hers makes her feel alive. They have little common ground but with each moment spent, plus recent turn of things, they are brought closer together.
" People like you give people like me a soft place to fall. "
Andie was attracted and intrigued by Stu right away there's just some thing about his charisma and appeal. Stu was pretty forward in his intentions and attraction too. Oh this guy and his dirty talk will make one blush and swoon! He's good at that. The tension and a push and pull between these two, battle of the wills felt exhilarating. Challenging each other to step outside their comfort zone. Through spending time together, banter and talk slowly but surely our heroine falls for our alluring hero. Then you have Stu's caper where you know it's one those that have things behind the scenes yet to be revealed. Makes my spidey senses tingle and keeps me guessing. I thought I figured it out completely took another exciting turn like beauty of of con.
The combination of love story, sneak plot twists, humor in between, fun quips all make up one fantastic story. I loved the vast differences in these characters, especially the Cross family with the different personas. She writes her characters well that feel so life like. Throw in a Hunger Games reference I'm quite happy.
Lorraine has a way to bring out the best in her secondary characters that they are essential to the overall story and tug your heart strings. That ending is brilliant too! Thief of Hearts makes you think about the assumptions and stereotypes that are common and to look beyond them and you might get something better. There is one more Cross brother and I can't wait for his book!

i enjoyed this book, but it's not her best. i didn't get attached to the characters and/or the story too much. it's lacking the true feelings. and i spotted quite some typos.. feels like she was in a rush to get this book done.
