From the brand
Northern Brewer
As brewers, we’re always working to improve the next batch. And because Northern Brewer was built by homebrewers for homebrewers.
-
When founder Chris Farley first opened the doors in 1993, life was different. Wine coolers were cool. And craft beer wasn’t even born yet. At Northern Brewer, we started out with just one mission: To help our fellow homebrewers make great beer. Even though times have changed, our mission hasn’t. And because of that, we’ve grown from that tiny storefront to become the largest homebrewing and winemaking supplier in America.

SERVING THE HOMEBREWER COMMUNITY SINCE 1993 Talking about brewing is almost as fun as brewing; having a beer while talking about brewing gives it a run for its money. We believe this conversation is important, ongoing, dynamic, and bridges the gaps of age, gender, politics, etc. We bring homebrew to the masses (classes, demonstrations, competitions, beer festivals, and advertising outside hobby publications), Northern Brewer has been in the thick of it since 1993. |
THE PERFECT BURNER FOR CRAFT BEER ENTHUSIASTS Dark Star is no longer a starter burner, packing enough power for quick boils and even heating on up to 15 gallon batches. Much more than a typical propane cooker. Every tool is custom-designed for a specific brew-day task, incorporating details only a die-hard brewer can appreciate in an outdoor propane burner. |
WATCH. LEARN. ENJOY. Our Brewmasters are very passionate about brewing and want you to have an amazing brewing experience. Watch our detailed step by step brewmaster videos so you too can brew your best. Someday we want homebrewing to be as common a household craft in America as vegetable gardening, and we know that our hobby/craft/shared passion/obsession won’t get there through complacency. |

However, the quality is lacking a bit. After only 2 uses, it already started to rust in spots. Any burner not stainless will rust, but I didn't expect it after only 2 uses. Out of the box, the gas burner piece wobbled a bit and has only gotten worse with each use.
Not a bad burner for your first one, but I'd expect to upgrade after a year or so.
This burner is fantastic. I am able to adjust the regulator and obtain a precise temperature during the brew. I actually used it first when my wife was showing a friend how to can with pressure sealing the jars. We had to used the burner because they had an induction cooktop and our pressure canner is aluminum. That being said, I was able to maintain the pressure at 5-6 PSI for the required time with regulator adjustment.
This burner meets/exceeds my expectations and needs.
