Writing has been a passion for me ever since I first learned the alphabet. An early gift for my birthday was a working typewriter and by grade two I had begun composing poems. I worked hard at school, always found ways to make extra money to buy comics to read and add to my collection. I remember the day it came to me that I wanted to write, it was in a grade 11 English Class, at one point as I sat and thought about the amazing literature we were learning about, it all seemed so simple to me. Take some characters, throw them together, try and say something about the human condition. I think I really had a good grasp on what I would one day write, but it took many years of hard work and dedication plus education and reading to learn to really craft stories. In a crucial point in my youth, I suffered from Bipolar Disorder and had to be forcibly confined to a mental hospital a number of times. It was in this battle with my own mind that I decided my best writing would one day come from. I wrote, "Through The Withering Storm" about my teen years, about how I slowly descended into madness but still found ways to live, love and move forwards. In more recent years, I was asked by a number of people to try to write with more detail, more passion, and even simply write more about my mental illness, and it was in this request that "Inching Back To Sane" came about. My first attempt at writing a Novel received good feedback (Green Mountain Road) but I didn't feel I was yet ready to write a Novel. I went back to my early roots and wrote three poetry collections from that point, two of them here as "Poems From Inside Me" and "First White of Winter Poems" the final one, Stargazer: My Life in Constellations is still waiting to be published. All the while I had been writing short stories, and working hard, sometimes staying up all night writing and editing and then walking to a friend's house to have the work I had done proof-read. It was in these times that I wrote "The Base Jumpers" and "Mustang Summer" I thank you for taking the time to check out my work and encourage you to keep checking me out. Recently I was given the honour of being voted "One of the top 11 Canadian Writers to Watch" on The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's website. Take care!
