I really liked this device. I have had it about 2 years. it is a good size, easy to use and easy to clean. It is particularly easy to open, give a quick stir and re close. about 1 year in a tab broke off the base . it was still functional. The other day the top of the blade assembly, where it connects with the cover melted down and got stuck in the top. It is not worth buying replacement parts as the device total cost is $18.00. So I bought a new one. It has served me well in many different applications in my kitchen for 2 years, well worth the $18.00.

I have a full-size food processor, and it is a pain to use, clean, and store, so I got this chopper on a lark, with few expectations, and it was a pleasant surprise!

First: it is SMALL. Only half an onion at a time, and even that has to be quartered to fit! So you'll do some hand-cutting before you can even load anything into this Proctor Silex. Once the food is in it, though, it chops up a storm! Easy to dump the cup of chopped onions (or whatever) into another bowl, and move on to the other half, or the rest of however many times you need to refill.

Second: it is EASY - only four parts! Motor, cup, blade, and lid. An extension on the lid operates the switch, so it has a safety built-in. Also, the base locks into the motor. When you're finished, put away the motor, and put the rest in the dishwasher - simple!

The problem: the plastic is weak. The parts of the cup that clip to the motor broke first - one side in the first six months, the other in about two years. Then the rim around the lid cracked. One side extension (to the switch) broke at about 18 months. When the other broke, the unit became unusable.

Other: The blade stayed sharp, and I used it A LOT. The motor was still in good condition - it would have been nice to just replace the cup and lid, but I didn't see that available. Small nitpick: this thing chops one size, one style - mostly, I like it, but it would be nice to be able to make, say 1/4" thick slices of celery or carrots - for that, I need the full-size processor.

For the price, I think it's a good bargain. I used mine A LOT, and I have now bought another (same thing) to replace it - so to me, it's worth it! I looked at better, bigger choppers with more options, but I can still buy TWO more of this one for that price!

Very small chopper. I wanted to chop some hard boiled eggs and could only get 2 eggs, sliced length wise into the chopper. I purchased this unit to replace an older one I had, different brand, and thought the name and price would mean it was a really nice unit. The lid does NOT lock. When you put the lid on and turn it, thinking it locks like my old one did, it turns on the unit. I switched thinking I had the wrong side and found there is no locking the lid. My old unit had a push button to turn the unit on, this one works as soon as you place the lid on it and turn the lid, thinking you are locking it. Not at all what I hoped for. I won't return it as I do need it and will be cautious when using it but if you have a choice, find another one.
