Savannah Jefferies is used to good gossip. Owner of the Teasen & Pleasen Hair Salon in the heart of Louisiana, she’s used to big hair, Southern style, and tall tales of the latest town scandal. But her quiet life is turned on its head when Savannah finds an upstanding member of the community murdered outside her salon in cold blood. Savannah investigates, only to find that her pleasant, cute town is just a façade, and that there’s more deception than truth in the lives of its residents. As the case intensifies, Savannah finds herself dealing with a bad blowout, a man who might lose a limb, and a woman scorned, leading to a firefight the village of Knockemstiff will never forget.

About the author
From her early days as a young girl, mysteries have held a special place in Constance's heart, a fondness inherited from her doting grandmother. She reveled in the thrill of deciphering the masked identities of the culprits in these enigmatic tales. Sometimes, her predictions would hit the mark; at other times, she was left delightfully surprised by the unexpected choices of the author.
Today, Constance channels that passion for mysteries into crafting riveting stories of her own. It is within this realm of the written word that she thrives, spinning tales that captivate and intrigue her readers.
When not immersed in the enigmatic world of her creations, Constance can be found indulging in her favorite getaway: the shimmering, lively city of Las Vegas, a perfect contrast to her quiet Midwestern home. Alternatively, she might be engaged in her beloved pastime of hunting for deals, basking in the thrill of unearthing hidden bargains.

Everyone knows everyone else and everyone else's business. There could be no secrets.
But, there are secrets; many, many secrets.
When Savannah finds the body of someone who was always described as “sweet”, it makes no sense. Who would want to shoot Annie? Well, it turns out many people in town had reasons to want her dead. She was a cruel and hateful woman.
This small town in Louisiana, is populated by wonderful people. Every character is introduced in such a way that the reader wants to know more about them.
As the story unfolds, it is pretty easy to figure out the murderer. And the journey to the solution is a wonderful one.
This is the first book I have read by Ms Barker. I am so grateful that I found her. She creates wonderfully well rounded characters. Her humor adds a great deal to the action. And her descriptions are so precise, at times I could smell that certain moldy smell of a swamp.
I would recommend this cozy mystery to anyone who likes to laugh at the same time they are finding a villain.
Ms Barker, I look forward to reading another fun story by you.
Kept me interested and entertained at the same time,
The storyline with the secrets the inhabitants of the small town are hiding was very interesting and at times really funny. Which secret will Savannah uncover next while investigating the murder of one of the town's inhabitants and the disappearance of another?
Savannah is a very likable person to whom I can relate and that's another point why I enjoyed reading this book.
