Good product that could be great with a few minor improvements.

Good product that could be great with a few minor improvements.
I am a competitive power lifter and was looking for something to do at home outside the gym. I landed on purchasing a power tower, if you are here I am sure you realize how saturated the market is. Being a pretty large guy, ~250lbs, I needed something that was sturdy. I also wanted a tower that offered the option to do parallel grip pull-ups, which few had. Ultimately it came down to the XM-7617 or the other more renowned commercial equipment typically found in most gyms. I decided to give XMark a shot since they were about half the cost of the big box brands. The equipment was packaged very well, everything was double boxed. I assembled the unit myself and it took approximately 1.5hrs. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. There are a few challenging stages during assembly where two people would have made it a whole lot easier, but if you are on your own it can still be done. I am telling you right now do yourself a favor and make sure you have a 16mm socket wrench. All the tools you technically need are provided, however, the cheap wrench they give you to hold the nuts does not afford the grip necessary to tighten the bolts fully. I found there to still be a slight wobble in the main pillars of unit until I was able to run out at purchase the socket wrench. Once I wen't back to tighten everything up it is as solid as a rock and does not budge whether I am doing dips or pull ups. A side note, keep in mind this is 83" tall, meaning that at a minimum you need 9ft ceilings to use it comfortably.Over-all I am very satisfied with the unit. There are a few things that in my mind keep it from a 5-star review.1) The end caps on the frame base are plastic, this is really a poor choice as the unit is prone to easily slide when bumped/pushed. This will not be an issue for installs on a gym-mat, but in my case I am on cement. I am guessing this was a cost decision, but rubber end caps would have been much more desirable.2) The pull up bar grip is too large and not tightly fit. I normally wear XL gloves and I could just barely wrap my hand around the bar. Maybe this is a personal preference, however, I like a tight-enclosing grip on my bar when I do pull ups. Secondly, the grip would rotate/slip when attempting to do pull-ups; this is very annoying when exercising. I remedied the issue myself by taking a razor blade to the grip and removing it, this revealed a metal tube that I then wrapped in tennis racket grip tape (as shown in my uploaded image). What a night and day difference it made switching to my custom solution!3) It is hard to see in the product image but the pull up bars are not flat, they are graded (even before the angled portion). I found this desirable for pull-ups, however, when you supinate your grip for chin-ups this puts a lot of strain on the outer bicep head (not in a good way). I find it very uncomfortable to perform chin-ups because of this grade. Your mileage may vary. All in all a good quality product that I would recommend to anyone shopping for a power tower.
