I love this marking pen. It's a dark purple, which is easy to see. I've had mine for a couple of months and it hasn't dried out yet (although it helps if you store the pen with the tip downward). It's fine-tipped, so you can get precise markings, without the ink bleeding all over your fabric.
I always recommend these pens to my sewing students, although I don't allow them in class. Why? Because the ink is air soluble, which means it disappears with time. By the time my students return to class the following week, the markings are gone. So it's really only good for projects where you're going to finish sewing within a few days. Long-term projects, you're better off with the blue version, which stays put until you wet the fabric.
I'll give this pen five stars, because the marks disappearing with time is what this pen is intended to do, so it really isn't a flaw. Highly recommended for anyone who sews, or who needs to temporarily mark fabric.
If you do any embroidery of repeating patterns, then I don't have to tell you how important it is to mark your layout. Marking with pins will work, but it is not as easy and nice as being able to draw precise markings right on the fabric. I love how you can do that with these pens and how the next day the markings disappear. It's a magical slick trick.
These pens are also handy for regular sewing, too. You can easily write on the back or even the front of the fabric knowing it will be there when you need it and disappear over the next day. Just one word of caution and that would be to test it out first on your fabric to make sure it works with no problems on that fabric. Sure, that takes an extra day for project completion, but you know you won't have any problems with it reacting poorly with your fabric, especially if it is an expensive fabric.
This pen has a very fine point. I didn't want one with a thick point, as you cannot make precise layout markings with something that is thick. I think you can see how fine the point is on my video. The manufacturer also suggests that you store it point side down. And I probably don't have to say it, but do keep the cap on it when not in use.
► Pros:
Indispensable for marking your fabric and not worrying about having to hide the marks. It does what it is supposed to do.
► Cons:
None.
► Suggestions for Improvement:
None.
► Would I buy again?
Yes.
