Cheater (Curious Liaisons Book 1) Kindle Edition
Lucas Thorn wasn’t born a cheater. All it took was a single moment—say, a certain disastrous incident on the night before his wedding—and boom. Reputation destroyed forever and always. So now he owns it. He has a lady friend for every night of the week (except Sundays—God’s day and all), and his rules are simple: No commitments. No exceptions.
But a certain smart-mouthed, strawberry blonde vixen is about to blow that all to hell.
Avery Black has never forgiven Lucas for cheating on her sister. And suddenly being forced to work with him is pretty much a nightmare on steroids. Of course, it does afford her the opportunity to make his life as difficult as possible. But no good revenge scheme comes without payback. Because he didn’t become the Lucas Thorn without learning a few things about women.
Now Avery’s lust for vengeance has turned into, well, lust. And if Lucas stops cheating, it’s definitely not because he’s falling in love…

Firstly, don't let the title scare you off. Don't let the synopsis scare you off. Don't let the Lucas we initially meet scare you off.
Gees, that makes it sound bad, doesn't it? But it is not. Ms Van Dyken has never let us down yet, and she doesn't start here either.
Lucas Thorn is all sorts of douchey when we first meet him. But as the story progresses you will see there is more than meets the eye.
Avery - gah I just loved her. She is fun, silly, quirky and can come across as a little prudish at times, but she is one of the most adorable female characters I have read in a while.
I laughed, I may have cried, there may have been some anger come out towards characters at times, and there may have been a little bit of swooning going on .
Now I am impatiently awaiting the second book, Cheater's Regret.
I am a big fan of Rachel Van Dyken, so knew I'd love this book before I even read it. But reading it just made my heart full.
I spent so much of this book laughing along with these characters. Rachel has an amazing way of writing her characters where you feel as though you are literally walking their journey with them.
When Avery starts working a temp job, the last person she expected to be her boss is the jerk who broke her sisters heart right before he was due to marry her.
Avery has always crushed on Lucas Thorn. He was her hero when she was a kid and he was dating her sister. He was her best friend. He was the boy who she knew she could never have because he loved her sister. And then he shattered her heart. He cheated on her sister. How could she ever look at him the same way?!
Lucas Thorn is a serial playboy. Since the moment he cheated on Kayla, he figured that he couldn't hold a relationship together. So he has a calendar of women. A different woman for each day of the week. And it's not called cheating when all the women know about each other. Well so he says.
But then, little, Avery Black walks into his office to start working as his secretary. Little Avery Black - the younger sister of the girl he was meant to marry. Little Avery Black who he adored as a kid. Little Avery Black that he had feelings for, that he knew he shouldn't of had. Little Avery Black, who isn't so little anymore.....

Lucas Thorn is a VP at a tutoring/educational company. Avery is his new intern and the younger sister of his ex-fiancé. Avery still hates Lucas for cheating on her sister the night before the wedding, especially since Avery worshiped and looked up to Lucas for years. And she doesn't even know yet that he keeps a different girl for each day of the week. What could possibly go wrong?
I loved Avery from the start. She's feisty, loud, and constantly puts Lucas in his place. Also, Avery loves to eat, just like me. I had mixed feelings about Lucas at first. I didn't hate him, which I thought I might. I just got frustrated with him at times. And the two of them together? I nearly threw my Kindle a few times out of exasperation at how dense they were being! But I will admit that by the end I loved both Avery and Lucas. Both of them are flawed. Their relationship is flawed. But they are so perfect together.
The plot was steady and full of laughs. I read it straight through until my eyes went blurry. Then I got up early and began reading again. I just had to see how Cheater would play out.
This was not my first book by Rachel Van Dyken, and it certainly won't be my last. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, to find out what is going on with Austin and Thatch!

I love books where the "falling in love" part is a journey the reader experiences with the characters. And Cheater did just that. Every interaction between the leads was fiery and pure gold. I devoured their story and absolutely loved the humour!
Of course, the side characters were amazing. I love reading about crazy quirky families. It is so refreshing. I loved Lucas's mom ... Though I'd die if she was mine. Apart from the spitfire Avery who was just one of the best female protagonists I've met in the romance genre, Patty Thorn was the highlight of this book!
There was a perfect amount of angst, romance, dialogue....and most importantly sex. I'm not fond of books that have the leads going at it in every other page. I eventually just lose interest. Cheater wasn't slow burn per se, but it definitelt had a lot of anticipation before it got there.
One of my favourite books in this genre! I've read two other books by RVD and I was split. This definitely tips the scales. I'll be reading more books!

All that was on Avery Black's mind when she accepted her second internship position in as many months was not being forced back home with her parents. Fresh out of college and desperately hoping to put her college education to work for her, the last thing she expected in a new boss was the guy who was once caught in a compromising position with her older sister ... on the night before he was supposed to marry Avery's other older sister.
It may have been years since that fateful night when everything fell apart, but Avery's anger still runs hot. after all, Lucas Thorn was once her hero, and that's not all.
I know that a lot of people have difficulty with books that take on the issue of cheating in a relationship, and I understand and respect that, but Cheater, by Rachel Van Dyken is probably something entirely unlike what you're imagining it to be.
Lucas' indiscretion, such as it was is now years in the past, and yet his whole life is structured around how the fallout of that indiscretion has affected him, and his strategy for avoiding any semblance of a repeat of that unpleasantness.
He's not looking for sympathy, not even really looking for forgiveness, he doesn't expect or want either. He's just happy moving on with his life, doing his very best to ignore the past and put it behind him, and up until Avery started working at the desk right outside his office, that plan had been going well.
Told with liberal helpings of humor, the dual point of view antics of Lucas and Avery as they encounter and become reacquainted with each other explores that fine line that exists when someone has technically done nothing wrong, but nevertheless inflict a similar kind of anguish as they might have had they actually crossed that line.
Apart from being a fun, easy read as I've come to expect from Rachel, Cheater also explores a variety of themes having to do with sibling rivalry, forgiveness, and how oftentimes, in trying to avoid the sins of the past, we can sometimes wind up cheating ourselves out of a future.
Also woven through the pages is a subplot involving the respective best friends of the two main characters, one that promises to be explored further in Cheater's Regret.
Loved it, and can hardly wait.

To unravel their history was addictive and I wanted to crawl inside my kindle and hug them both.
Rachel van Dyken is a go-to/1click-author to me because her writing ALWAYS makes it so easy to forget time and place, get lost in her words and I just love diving in her stories and leaving reality behind for a few hours.
Experiencing Lucas and Avery‘s journey was at times heartbreaking but also so much fun, I did not want it to end.
Okay the moms were a tiny bit over the top for my liking but I read those parts with a „wink“ ;)
Can‘t wait to find out what‘s up with Thatch.
