The thing that always frustrated me growing up all these years was what additional powder kegs of fun and life changing story did Mr. Lucas sit on all these years? I always waited on pins and needles to hear that the Star Wars Universe would be expanding with more content, more people/beings/droids and most definitely, more of The Force in an attempt to sustain my insatiable thirst for more in depth storytelling...but it never really came except for the first 3 films and the animated Clone Wars series that just didn't seem to be enough (like shooting a BB gun at a freight train of yearning).
Then FINALLY! Disney has taken the reigns of the franchise and it would seem that they are going all in with the much awaited content I had been pining for all these years. After the Clone Wars (which was done incredibly well), I was so pleased to hear of Star Wars Rebels arrival. After watching the 1st episode and the rest of the 1st Season, I was very pleased. It basically gets us familiar with the cast of characters and settles us in for what I hope to be a long and popular series. I hope even longer than the Clone Wars series. You should keep an open mind however, because if you are expecting the same incredible style of graphics/animation as the Clone Wars, you will be disappointed (at 1st). It took me several episodes in to adjust to the new style of animation, but by the end of the season I was hooked (again!).
With shows like Star Wars Rebels and the upcoming theatrical movies like Rogue 1, The Force Awakens and not to mention Episodes 8&9, I believe the future is looking pretty bright for we longtime original fans of old.
Now all I have to do is try to stay alive long enough to see them all come to fruition!
Take care and enjoy the 1st Season!
Tommy G.
I bought the season pass for Star Wars Rebels, and am extremely glad that I did. It is the fresh start that the genre needed, it brings in people who have been fans for years and also kids that my not have even watched star wars in the past. It makes me even more excited when I think of the Next trilogy that Disney is doing.
The story is well written, the characters are dynamic, the story draws you in and keeps you in suspense waiting for the next episode. It is a show well worth watching.
It was also interesting to see how Ezra has slightly matured in this episode. In the beginning he is a little smart aleck, but at the end he is a bit more understanding towards Kanan. Ezra is beginning to remind me of a mixture between Anakin and Luke, which is really cool.
And the bad guy? Jason Isaacs is spot-on as the Inquisitor, like an alien Lucius Malfoy. He delivers his lines beautifully. This is one Dark-side user I would not want to face!
Overall, great show. The only complaint? All of these episodes are too short. Why couldn't they work out an hour-long time slot?
Also, I would like to see backstories about the other characters. We know about Kanan, but I want to hear more about Sabine, Hera, and Ezra...and especially Zeb. We already got a tidbit about his past in "Droids in Distress", and it would be great to see his full backstory soon. Such great characters deserve equally great stories.
Great job, and kudos to the Rebels crew!
First, it is obvious to me as a fan that this show was made by people who love Star Wars. There are all kinds of things that aren't easter eggs, exactly, but seem familiar if you know a thing or two about the old books. Not direct copies of stories, but you can feel the inspiration. Honestly, I kept feeling like the show is unfolding exactly like a well-run tabletop RPG would, from characters meeting up to their becoming progressively more prominent and skilled as time goes by. The voice acting is well done on all counts. The heroism and struggles of the adult characters are presented with as much thoughtfulness as the young adults. And the lightsaber fights! They don't happen every episode, but when they do they are loads of fun to watch.
If you are a fan of Star Wars, I believe you will enjoy this show. The second season is at least as good, too, so there's more after this.

Pro’s
- Lots of excitement; varied action, fights, chases, battles and quite some wit.
- What I do like is that in contrast with the Clone Wars cartoon series, the characters in Rebels are more appealing and show companionship as seen in the original movie trilogy.
- Rebels is more visually recognizable as “Star Wars” than art-deco feel of much the prequel trilogy and more so than the Clone Wars cartoon series – this is about space junk rather than flashy fighters
- Visually and in terms of scenes the series looks stunning, the animation is beautiful. Every episode looks sharp and sounds great. Really glad to have watched it on Blu-ray with the Blu-ray resolution bringing out great textures and detail.
- A decent amount of Blu ray extras; a YouTube recap show "Rebels Recon,", a short feature of Rebels a the Star Wars Celebration, 4 animated shorts use din the original promotion of Rebels. And the most interesting part; a 81 minute ultimate guide , episode recap by the voice actor of Kanan.
Con’s
- Other than the Clone Wars cartoon series or the later Rebels seasons there are not too many references to existing/known characters in the Star Wars universe. C3PO is there as is Tarkin but that is about it. The main new bad guy introduced in the season is the fairly badass Inquisitor.
- The main character configuration feels very reminiscent of the original Star Wars; there is a young buy on a remote planet who doesn’t know about this father nor is he aware of his Jedi powers . He runs into a Jedi trainer and is accompanied by a storm trooper bashing monster that looks very much like the Ralph Mc Quarie Chewbacca designs ect.
To conclude; great set for the whole family. For 331 minutes total run time for everything on the discs – this was quite good value and of course highly recommended for Padawans, Star Wars fans and their children in particular.
