It does have a chapter on pick up leno, but I wanted to learn about doup leno which is not covered.
One of the criticisms aimed at this book has been the difficulty with seeing the photos and distinguishing what is what, so I was surprised to find that its not as bad as I feared. I am legally blind and could make out what I needed, but that could be because I already knew what I was looking at, and understand that some of the lace weaves are not very easy to work out for people who are visual learners. Looking at the finished item is not as easy as examining a photo of overshot, for example and since Leno usually uses the same colour warp and weft its hard to disinguish.
I found this book easy to understand. Its quite likely that those who have a limited experience with weaving could have difficulties at first, but reading carefully, and the help of a search engine where the photos need clarification should help most people work their way through without too many problems. You do not have to do this on a 4 shaft or greater loom; leno is just as easily, perhaps even more easily, learned using a rigid heddle loom or limiting yourself to two shafts. It cuts out some of the complications and distractions so you can concentrate on the threads you manipulate without worrying about picking them up from the right shaft.
So warp up a loom and get hands on! Manipulating the warps and weft with your fingers may seem strange at first, but its well worth the effort for the beautiful results. And the author does not let us down with her discussion of the topic or her teaching.
