Rehana Shamsi was born in India and grew up in Pakistan. She graduated from University of Karachi, majoring in Political Science, and Urdu Literature. She immigrated to the United States in 1995 and after studying nursing in New York, worked at Staten Island University Hospital as a clinical associate. While in New York, she studied English Literature at College of Staten Island, The City University of New York. She currently lives in Toronto, Canada.

Facts of Life is a collection of 96 poems - which are categorically divided into 11 subcategories, including but not restricted to dominance, gender inequality, migration, health, family, bereavements of loved ones, devastating events of India Pakistan partition and 9/11, and many other facets of our daily lives - thus plenty of subjects to choose from. Essentially comprising of grave social issues around women in some South Asian and Middle Eastern countries.

Her poems have a depth that comforts you and encourages you to think of the world at large. The book offers poems that are both beautiful and true-to-life. The rich, simplistic and pragmatic poetries make this book a joy to read. - Define Yellow Blog
