Always a Cowboy (The Carsons of Mustang Creek Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 2,650 ratings

From a New York Times–bestselling author who “creates vibrant characters and stories” the latest western romance set in Bliss County, Wyoming (Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Best is Yet to Come).

Drake Carson is the quintessential cowboy. In charge of the family ranch, he knows the realities of this life, its pleasures and heartbreaks. Lately, managing the wild stallions on his property is wearing him down. When an interfering so-called expert arrives and starts offering her opinion, Drake is wary, but he can’t deny the longing—and the challenge—she stirs in him.

Luce Hale is researching how wild horses interact with ranch animals—and with ranchers. The Carson matriarch invites her to stay with the family, which guarantees frequent encounters with Drake, her ruggedly handsome and decidedly unwelcoming son. Luce and Drake are at odds from the very beginning, especially when it comes to the rogue stallion who’s stealing the ranch mares. But when Drake believes Luce is in danger, that changes everything—for both of them.

The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.

Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.

Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

She came to Wyoming to complete her PHD on wild horses and their effects on ranchers. He was a Cowboy through and through. He didn't want that tender foot writing about him and getting in the way of his run ing his farm. But there was something about her. She had to get this paper done for class and he seemed to be blocking her.
As usual Ms Miller spins a wonderful story with wonderful characters

This is the story of the second Carson son, Drake, who runs the ranch. Unbeknownst to him, his mother has invited the daughter of a friend from California to the ranch to study the wild horses. Luce Hale is writing her thesis for her doctorate on how wild horses interact with the ranch and how the ranch is run. Naturally Luce and Drake butt heads until they take a good look at each other. Soon the mothers want to plan a wedding.

Linda Lael Miller writes great western romances.

Continuing story of the Mustang Creek Carson family. Contains adventures, excitement, happiness and joy. Descriptive writing of the hard work, rewards, and the beauty of ranching in Wyoming.

I'm generally a big Linda Lael Miller fan, but this book was a letdown. Almost all summary! There was one place where the heroine tells the hero how she was stalked by a mountain lion, and she jumped into the river. The stallion she'd been studying charged the mountain lion and chased it away. What a wonderful, suspenseful scene that would've been! But no. Author chose to tell us what happened, rather than write the exciting, heart-pounding scened. That's how the entire story was . . . summary of what was going on, rather than taking us into the scene to experience it with the hero and heroine.

About 60% and struggling to finish. They both have the personality of a plank. Seems to have zero chemistry but start planning their future after knowing each other five minutes. The involvement of his whole family in their fledgling romance is tedious. The idea that people have to decide if the relationship will lead to marriage before it even starts or they even really know each other or have slept together is ludicrous. Very disappointed in this one Have read Miss Miller's books for years but this is a big miss from me especially given the price was way over the odds at 13.99.

I have read 3 of the 4 novels in this series, the 4th being the Christmas story which doesn't feel appropriate to read unless it is Christmas. I have enjoyed this series, though not my preferred genre. I would read this genre again.
