Product Description
The Sennheiser ME66 short shotgun microphone is a popular choice among video, film and ENG / EFP professionals. The capsule features a highly directional, cardioid polar pattern yielding great attenuation at the sides of the microphone, maximizing pickup at the front. The result is a focused pickup in highly ambient environments. A wide 40-20,000Hz frequency response provides detailed, accurate signal reproduction. The ME66 capsule takes advantage of the K6 modular power supply. The K6 houses a standard AA alkaline battery and is also capable of accepting phantom power from outside sources. Its compact design allows mounting to video cameras. The ME66 is at home in event videography, ENG / EFP use, video depositions, corporate media applications and film. This kit includes 3 items: Sennheiser ME66 - Short Shotgun Mic Capsule and Sennheiser K6 Powering Module (Battery or Phantom) and Mic Windscreen

Pros:
Clean crisp sound devoid of hiss, buzz, or static.
Acceptable price, more then others, but well worth it.
Options for Battery or Phantom power.
Cons:
Does not come with a shoe mount, but those are easily bought.
A little long, but not really a big deal.
If mine broke today, I'd order a new one exactly the same right away, it is the best you can get without going into thousands of dollars.
A great feature to me is the capsule. You can expand your microphone system economically and at your own pace.
I now have the ME64, 66, and 67 which all work with the K6 capsule. This keeps my bags light, and allows for versatility in the field. If your'e looking at the Rode NTG2 versus the Sennheiser (i own both). I would advise saving up for the Sennheiser. It will be the best choice in quality and price in the long run.
However, if your budget doesnt fit the Sennheiser, the Rode is a great mic. It just doesnt have the clarity, gain and ability for expansion the Sennheiser has. Some have told me they even like the bass the Rode adds to sound.
So far I have nothing bad to say about any Sennheiser Evolution products. I use Sennheiser across the board, except when vocal talent has there own mic. I do own Shure SM57's and Shure Beta 58A's because some talent are very partial to those mics.
Best bang for the buck in my opinion.
I highly recommend this mic for any serious cinematographer.
