I bought three of these in the last month and have been very pleased. They shipped the in-line array version (not the semi-circle version in the first photo). I agree that the hole size is misleading, so get 2 3/8" cutter such as  Vulcan 961641or Bi Metal Hole Saw, 2-3/8" . Another reviewer said this was only USB 2.0 compatible, but the ones I have are certainly USB 3.0 and perform beautifully, even using a long USB extension ( AmazonBasics USB 3.0 Extension Cable - A-Male to A-Female - 9.8 Feet (3.0 Meters) ). I tested using NexStar USB 3.0 SATA disk dock, and large-scale file transfers on Windows 10.

Short summary - it works, it was a different design than the main photo showed although I expected that from reading other comments. The version I received had all 4 USB ports in a straight line - may not be as aesthetically pleasing compared to the semi circle design but it is more practical for use.

I had previously purchased the Monoprice 3-Ports USB 2.0 HUB with Audio (In-Desk) (106437) from Amazon in March 2015. Unfortunately the Monoprice hub recently stopped working so I researched what to replace it with and came across the Sedna. One thing I disliked about the Monoprice hub was that it used 2 USB ports on the PC to power it and also came with audio ports that I didn't need. The Sedna on the other hand uses 1 USB port for the signal/data and then also plugs into a power outlet. As an added advantage the Sedna is USB 3.0 (although can be plugged into your USB 2.0 port on your machine if you do not have any USB 3.0 ports - it will then function at USB 2.0 speeds).

I've given this 4 stars as the photo of the item, when I purchased, still showed the semi-circular layout of the USB ports which it is not correct.

PLEASE NOTE: Make sure you double check the size of the hole you need in your desk. My Alera office desk came with holes pre-drilled and was a tight fit - but ultimately worked.

First off, although the item description claims it is 2.5" diameter, it's a lie. The diameter is much closer to 2.25", something I learned AFTER cutting the hole as well as that for another grommet which was a true 2.5".

If you buy this and install it, MEASURE the diameter before making the mounting hole, do not believe the erroneous description.

Con: GIANT flaw. And before I describe it, I noticed a review at the end that had the same experience, so I think it's a design flaw, and not something cause by rough handling during shipment.

When power is applied, IF there is a usb device attached to the hub already, it will come up and be recognized, and any further device you add will work perfectly. But IF you EVER remove all USB devices, the unit will not recognize anything until power to the hub is unplugged and returned. Because power comes off the back of this thing, and presumably goes somewhere under or behind your desk, this is a major flaw. I suppose if you had a mouse or other device permanently plugged in, it would stay in hub mode forever. That's not the case for me though.

I'll update this review if the product gets better after speaking with Tech Support.

After reading all of the reviews, I still decided that I would purchase this product. I assumed that I had garnered enough information to be able to ferret out all of the issues that others were experiencing, especially since users posted about the grommet size and the connectivity issues. Well, I was wrong! After having it for 3-days, I'm having the same issues with connectivity, as I have had to unplugged it from the bottom everyday because my computer goes to sleep. :( Not cool. (I read the one review about how to get it to work continuously, but still haven't figured it out).

As for the grommet hole size. I messed my custom desk up, but I'll have to live with that. Thing is, I replaced a smaller sized 3-port USB grommet (Belkin 2.0 only) for this one, and because of the size difference, that one will no longer fit. :( I ended up putting painters tape around the base of this one to "beef" it up to fit snugly in the hole.

I'm going to give Tech Support a few days to respond before I figure out my next move. But so far, not impressed. One star. :(
