Great little pump

Great little pump
I really like that this pump works just with the sunshine on it. There is no need for electricity. The only problem that I have is that I want it for my bird bath, but the water disappears so fast that I'm adding water 3 or more times a day. I even added a deeper bowl in the middle of my bird bath so that the water wouldn't disappear so fast. The pump works best on cloudless days, but those are the days that I'm refilling the most. I think this is because of the water evaporating in addition to the spray is more intense (and thus sprays higher and out of the bowl of water) on these days. Plus, the birds are loving it and probably drinking more and splashing more and I've seen the squirrels there, too. I am looking to find something that will hold even more water so that I don't have to refill it so much. That is my only concern with this since I can't stay home all the time to keep the bowl full of water and I don't want the pump to burn out. I may have to move it to a more shady area, although then it won't have the nice spray that is the main reason I got it. I think this pump would work best in a large pool since the water wouldn't spray on the ground or evaporate like it does in my bird bath. All in all, I think it's a great little solar fountain pump and I would recommend it in spite of the drawback with the water spraying out and evaporating so quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!!

I actually bought this product before I bought the fountain. I was drawn to the availability of different nozzles for effect and the solar power feature. The only con part of the review is that the suction cups on the bottom of the unit are so small they never hold the unit under water. I ended up using the larger suction cup provided and attached it with a very, very short piece of the filament (also provided). It still manages to just float but as long as the pump underneath is under water it is just fine. It would be great if Ankway could figure out how to put a more weighted system underneath. The unit works as long as there is sun on it just as described. The pump stopped working one day and it was super easy to turn the unit over and clean the pump intake filter. The ends of the pump pop off and are idiot proof for how to put them back on. If your birdbath is anywhere near a tree, bush, or bird feeder it will inevitably get things sucked up to the filter. Make sure you position the pump to where the filter end has the most exposure to the open side underneath. I currently have a ceramic bird bath that is 2 1/2" deep and 20" diameter. I can only use the basic, bubble-out tip instead of one of the nice spray tips because it is so shallow. I would recommend this product to anyone who has a birdbath that is in a mostly sunny area. I will buy another one when I get the deeper birdbath.
