Carol Pavelin's "Red Shoes with White Squiggles" is a wonderful children's storybook. Written as a poem, the narrative flows smoothly and is very easy to read aloud. The rhythm of the poetry and unforced rhyming word choices add to the enjoyment of the story about a mouse family's excursion to the village shoe store. When the youngest mouse child wanders away and embarks on a side excursion to a farm, the added elements enhance the tale rather than detracting from it. Young children find the characters and the story very engaging - my 4 1/2 year old grandson had me read and reread "Red Shoes with White Squiggles" this weekend.
Stephanie Conroy's beautiful illustrations are an added bonus. They are colorful, clearly drawn, and have both depth and dimension. The detail and realistic depiction of the characters and settings are not photographic, but are not so simple or cartoon-like as the illustrations in many current children's books. "Red Shoes with White Squiggles" is enhanced by the artwork.
If you are looking for an excellent read-aloud book or one that younger readers may enjoy, I urge you to consider Carol Pavelin's work. I am looking forward to additional books in the Woodhill Whiskers series.

Red Shoes with White Squiggles (Woodhill Whiskers Book 1) (English Edition) Kindle版
Sisters, author Carol Pavelin from Solihull, England and artist Stephanie Conroy from Texas, USA, have collaborated to create this rhyming children's book, the first in a series about a family of five mice.
The locations in the book are loosely based on the sisters' happy memories of growing up on Woodhill Road in Portishead, England, which was the inspiration for the name 'Woodhill Whiskers'.
They remember getting into trouble for feeding some mice in the basement with biscuits!
Carol's writing, in combination with Stephanie's artwork, has created a colourful children's book suitable for a bedtime story or early reading.

I have bought it for my grandchildren and they all enjoyed it . The little ones loved the illustrations,
the mice are just adorable. The older ones enjoyed the rhyming story too and are looking forward to the next in the series.

being in my 50's I love to download children's books I am a retired home school momma and I still have that teacher love of books in me, this book left me wishing that I had a little child available to read to. the illustrations are fantastic the mice in woodhill are adorable, Its a good story about a child who never pays attention and ends up getting seperated from her family. It makes a clear point of the dangers that can happen when a child does not pay attention remembering teaching my children to read I know the rhyming in the story makes it flow easily and there are no very difficult words, so I would recommend this to my fellow home school moms. I agree with other reviews that this is a rare gem I sincerely love it I am anxious to see more woodhill whiskers!! So dear authors get on with it and bring us more about the woodhill mice!!!

What a find ! This children's book is delightful in every way . The characters are fun and the drawings lovely. My nephew loves the story and it has become his favorite bedtime book, to be read at least twice a night.
