Pump Plus Silcone Tape Equals Success

Pump Plus Silcone Tape Equals Success
Having an inflatable SUP, I have been on the hunt to find a pump that will do most of the heavy lifting of getting my board inflated. My board is a Jimmy Lewis and is rated up to 25 psi but works best with at least 18 psi. So you can image how much fun I have been having with the standard SUP pump getting the board filled. I have been researching all the options. Currently it seems there is an unmet need for a high pressure electric pump that costs around 100 bucks or less. I find it hard to justify to spending another 200 bucks for manual kpump or pimp high-end two stage electric.Like all the other reviews, I found the pump itself decent. And like everyone has said the hose is questionable. On the first testing I had the pump going for about 5 minutes from car lighter outlet. The board inflated well up to about 7psi then the hose started leaking air heavily and spitting glue out the side. At this point it was obvious that getting up to even 10psi was not possible. I almost decided to request a return right then and there.Other reviews opted to send the whole unit back in hopes for a better built hose, but I choose to find a solution to the hose issue. For another 10 bucks I purchased silicone tape, specifically rescue tape. This stuff has a rating of holding very high pressure (100+ psi).Wrapping the leaking valve end with silicone tape made a huge difference and stopped the air leak completely. Testing inflation of the board again this time went right past 7 psi and up to 13 psi with no air leaks. I ran my battery down without the motor on.. woops. Next time I am sure I will get it up to at least 14psi. If you get a leaking hose like me just add rescue tape to this area. Silicone tape is amazing.. check out youtube to see how its applied and what else you can do with it. I still have plenty leftover to patch or reinforce the questionable hose as needed.Ok.. so I only get to 14-15 psi with this thing.. Still this beats going to 17-18 psi totally manual. And to boot still costs less than 100 bucks.I hope other folks find this helpful and save them some paddle time.Other notes:Your lighter outlet needs to be rated at 15 amps or better.May also get a kpump 220 for travel.Update July 2016: This thing still keeps on going.. The hose has held up well, as I am careful not to squash it when moving my paddle gear around.. This pump also came with an extra hose to specifically for lower pressure items like floaty toys. I have to say this thing blows up floats and rafts in no time. It is sooo much better with a pump. Also works very well for blowing up an inflatable mattress. With all the inluded adaptors, this leads to many possibilities. On thing to note is that at higher elevations (6k+), the pump struggles a bit for high pressure and may require to run the pump for longer than 10 minutes. I am somewhat worried that the unit will overheat or I may be killing my car battery, so I try not run it any longer than this without rest. I also think that with higher elevations a bit less air is required to get optimum inflation.
