I’ve used Ernie Ball 8’s and 9’s for about 25 years. I prefer lighter gauge strings for solos, etc. I couldn’t resist trying 7 gauge strings on my SG. These are such delicate strings that it’s almost like threading a strand of hair through a needle. They do have a good sound once they get broken in. But, I didn’t get a chance to break them all in because the B string snapped during a full bend on the first day. I don’t feel like the quality is what it should be for the cost of these strings. I would try seven gauge strings again, but not these ones. If I find Ernie ball 7’s, I’ll likely give them a shot. Otherwise, I’ll stick to my extra slinky 8’s. However, these seven gauge strings are pretty good for mixing different gauges together. The G, B, and E strings are just too flimsy.
