The Orion-designed Mini 50mm Guide Scope is a complete and compact guide scope solution designed for use with the Orion StarShoot AutoGuider (sold separately) or similar small-chip CCD autoguider devices. The Orion Mini 50mm Guide Scope is ideal for guiding long-exposure astrophotographs with imaging telescopes up to 1500mm in focal length.

Thanks to the high level of guiding accuracy offered by modern autoguider devices such as the Orion StarShoot AutoGuider, astro-imagers of today can use guide scopes with much shorter focal lengths and smaller apertures compared to the large, bulky models used in the past. Using a more optically fast refractor as a guide scope can save astro-imagers time, space, and money, but will still provide the unrivaled accuracy that only auto-guiding can bring to long-exposure astrophotographs.

Our new Orion Mini 50mm Guide Scope brings auto-guiding into the realm of affordability for any astro-imager, and brings the guide scope to a position that was previously occupied by a telescope finder scope.

Used as an Electronic Finderscope and wide imaging for EAA
My wife bought this for me for use in Video Astronomy or EAA (electronic assisted astronomy). I don't use it for guiding. Just to clarify, EAA is intended for near real time viewing of an object. You aren't going for quality, long term astrophotography images. Despite that, I get decent results with this little scope for wide-field images. The images won't be magazine quality but I can share images with my friends and family.I attached a ZWO ASI185MC camera directly to this guide scope. I have it mounted in the finder bracket of my Celestron 130SLT and can use the Celestron's goto for imaging wide field with this scope. However, it's primary use is as an Electronic Finder Scope. In my light polluted skies and using my Celestron 130SLT (or my dob), I found it difficult to star hop with a camera on the main scope and the red-dot finder on the 130SLT or the 9x50 RACI on my Dob. They only worked well for bright objects or star hops. If I got to a dim area where there weren't many stars, it was difficult to find an object and place it in the field of view of the camera. I could replace the camera with an eyepiece to see where I was, but that would necessitate a refocus when placing the camera back in the focuser. Using this scope, I can see much deeper for star hopping. On the brighter objects, I can actually see them and position the scope to view it in the main camera.Sometimes the images you see are images taken with a camera through the telescope using this as a guider (images not from the guider). I'm adding some photos. These are taken through the guidescope with the ASI185MC camera. M8, M11, M13
