Editorial Reviews
Although technically considered a compilation album, Second-Hand Smoke originally featured previously unreleased material as well as remixed versions of previous released tracks. It is regarded as the band's final album. Released in 1997, Second-Hand Smoke is platinum certified by the RIAA. Making its vinyl debut, a newly remastered standard weight gatefold 2-LP is available.

This album plays a lot like "Robbin the Hood" Pt. 2 in that it has the experimental/lo-fi feel to it. This has more actual traditional songs than that record does though and it almost feels like this could've been released as a companion album to "Sublime". The remixes and alternate versions of songs like "Doin Time", "April 26th, 1992", and "Bad Fish" all sound great. The alternate version of "Garden Grove" is pretty good but doesn't touch the original.
The demos and outtakes really show the different sides of the band; they're fun and intriguing to listen to. Some of them are lo-fi sound quality and a couple are just jams ("What's Really Going Wrong") but they manage to work nicely.
I think any die-hard fan of Sublime should own this.
For fans of Sublime who liked albums like "Robbin the Hood" and "Sublime Acoustic", you should definitely give this a try.
And for people who are just getting into the band, stick with either "40 Oz to Freedom" or "Sublime" because those albums are more accessible and you'll appreciate this album more after hearing those 2.
