Encouraging the reader to take their own steps to financial freedom, he simply states that if you do not know where to start, start by being better than yesterday.
Personal stories intertwined with cold hard facts make this a quick reading book for those who plan on leaving their job, or those who already have. Based on the numbers he states in the book, that number looks to increase within 10 years of having 50% of the work force being freelancers or self-employed.
Vincent details through five steps how to build your freelance income from a side-hustle business to where you can be your own boss, call your own shots, and have the ultimate reward by being able to spend more time with your family after becoming debt-free. “The greatest thing you can give your children is wonderful memories,” explains Pugliese.
With some financial coaching and a hard work-ethic, you will learn that you too can freelance your way to freedom. He explains that yes there will be rookie mistakes, pricing blunders and other missteps, but “Being in debt has become so universally accepted that you are considered weird if you go against it. So let us be weird.” And with that, his motivation to be in complete control of his life takes root.
By working harder and fostering more relations with successful people, more opportunities grow. And those opportunities can also help the reader to achieve debt freedom. He says, “Debt robbed us the ability to live the life we wanted because we were paying for a part of our life we already lived.”
His new schedule allows him to work around family events with the greatest reward of having more family time together.
Vincent shares his personal struggles and details basic steps he took to realize his dream and explains how you can do that too. Simple daily patterns of his life that have worked, and he passes on his successes to others like starting with a morning JEM (Journaling/Exercise/Meditation) or even simply, just smiling more.
Smiling seems easier for the author by the end of the book as he has broken from the ranks of the 80% of employees who are unhappy with their jobs. He explains that there is hope. There is a way out.
You do not have to be 100% debt-free to attain all of his goals, but the more you are the more you can grow your business. Once your business grows, it is easier to give back, something he highly encourages.
By the end of the book, it seems as though we’ve actually known Vincent like he was a classmate of ours years ago. In his pages of personal stories, humor, wit and wisdom he keeps your mind working to get the most out of your talent. He describes talent as drive, passion, grit, determination, and motivation.
The book culminates when the author, Vincent Pugliese, finds his freedom. In this case, freedom is the freedom of debt so you can do whatever you want.
By sharing his story to success, he encourages everyone to follow a similar path to their own freedom.
“If our story can help any family change course and start building the life and family of their dreams, then this is all worth it.”
Freelance to Freedom is ideally suited for people 30 and above who have at least a decade of experience trying to make life work out the way they had been taught. Yet, today, they are frustrated, broke and hopelessly working in dead-end jobs trying to make it to Friday and their next one week "vacation."
Some people may need the "security" of a paycheck. Others want the adventure and opportunity for a much bigger payday that comes from growing a business of their own.
The author, Vincent Pugliese, points out that only 20 percent of the population is self-employed, but almost two-thirds of millionaires are self-employed. That means they have financial and time freedom.
By reading Freelance to Freedom, you will discover that you really do have a skill, but you aren't using that skill correctly. You are giving it and the best years of your life away to an employer who will fire you on a whim, pay you just enough to get by and keep you stuck in an endless rut of debt and payments.
Using stories from his own life and by being brutally honest about the choices he made, Vincent will show you there is a much better, much more secure and infinitely more rewarding life available through self-employment than you ever thought possible.
Best of all, he will lay out a roadmap to help you get their in just a few years.
There is so much freedom when you start to build something that can lead your family to that financial and time freedom that you DREAM of, and I am so thankful and honored to know Vincent and I am thrilled to have learned about these amazing possibilities from him! Please buy this book and apply the principles to create that life of freedom that you want! I promise, you’ll never want to go back to the life you had before reading it!

I love how Vincent keeps it real, he talks about the struggle he and his wife, Elizabeth faced and what they had to sacrifice to get to where they are.
But more importantly he talks about the possibilities.
I had so many aha moments that I lost count and will have to reread this book to learn more lessons.
When he broke down how much money we actually need vs how much money we think we need, I realized I have had it all wrong. Financial freedom is much closer than I thought and now I feel like I have the steps to achieve it.
I'm inspired and motivated.

It was recomended in the Choose FI Podcast and they were so right! :)

My situation is a little different because I’ve already been freelancing for 3 years and completely debt free. This 3rd year has been a real kick in the pants as I’ve not done well and earned less than my 1st year when I was still learning my craft. My savings have been dwindling and I’m hoping to buy my first house in the next few years.
Although I tell people I freelance full-time it’s never felt like that, it’s more like a side hustle. This book has been the push I needed to get serious about my business. From his personal stories to all the lessons in the book, I feel like I’ve read the best feel-good story ever and coupled that with a comprehensive education in freelancing the right way.
The number of notes I’ve taken has been plentiful and I’m going to re-read this book just before the turn of the year to reinforce what I’ve already learnt. Tons of awesome lessons in here and how they can be applied to your own life. The daily pattern (JEM) was a big takeaway for me and something I’m going to incorporate asap.
I’ve only been on his newsletter for a few months but as soon as I heard F2F was available I bought it straightway as I’d grown to love his conversational writing style and this book is no different.
Thanks to Vincent and this amazing book I have genuine hope for the future and I’m excited for what 2018 will bring but I’m not going to wait till then I’m starting today!
