When Australian Julie Reagan discovers a book written about wild Malaysia in the 1970s, she decides to find out more about the author - her great aunt. Why did her grandmother refuse to speak about her sister who disappeared from the family, 60 years before? What caused such a severe rift? Julie is invited to stay with her cousins who run the plantation founded by her great grandfather in Malaya a hundred years ago, and she decides to visit in the hope of finding clues to this family mystery. What Julie finds sends her spiralling through generations of loves, deaths, tragedy and the challenges of the present until she discovers her grandmother's shocking secret.

Great read and interesting to the end. Di Morrissey taught me so much about the history of Malaysia in this novel. Her characters were endearing and interesting. I would recommend this novel to all fans of Di Morrissey and also to those who've not yet experienced her writing.

While not as riveting as The Last Rose of Summer, this book was still a page turner. I had to keep reading to find out how everything linked together and I've always enjoyed Morrissey's technique of switching between past and present.

It actually was a little disturbing of a story filled with sadness. Also filled with constant animal rights and deforestation info that would have been better left out.

Another classic Di Morrissey tale. Full of adventure, romance and love of the land. Very enjoyable. Up to Di's usual standard, this book is another good read.

Having lived in Borneo,Singapore,Thailand,Penang etc. as a child in the 1950's with my parents who were Australians working abroad, this book has brought back amazing memories for me and my sister as we are both now in our 60's. The history of the region is well researched and the description of the Malay people and country is SPOT ON. It was like reliving my childhood (including remembering my beautiful and loving Amah). Thank you so much Di for weaving such a dynamic story into the history of Malaysia and its gentle and beautiful people of all ethnic backgrounds. Absolutely loved this book.

An easy flowing novel without much intricacies compared to the writings of Margaret Atwood.
