Use hot water and salt and you’re in business!
5 Stars
Use hot water and salt and you’re in business!
We expected these dyes to be faint because other reviews said they were, but our eggs actually turned out very opaque! Instructions say to leave in for a minimum of 5 minutes but we didn’t need to do that. Even for the darkest colors you see here, it was only maybe 1 minute at most. The lighter eggs in the photo were put in for like 5 seconds. We are not patient lol. We did use the freshly boiled water and a pinch of salt to mix the pigment, so definitely do that and it should get you the same results. I only wish natural dyes were able to achieve bright red! Oh well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was very impressed!

I wasn’t sure how the dye was actually going to work….but it worked GREAT!!! You didn’t have to leave the eggs sitting in for a long time and the colors were nice! Not overly bright, but I was happy! Then my kids drew on them with markers which defeated the purpose but the natural egg dye was great and I will buy it again next year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun and nice dyes!
Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2015
Great dyes - we used a variety of white, light and dark brown eggs, so we had many colors in the end even without mixing any of the colors because we changed how long we left different colors of eggs in each of the dyes. My four-year-old loved the eggs so much that he still hasn't allowed us to eat all of them yet! I keep warning him they'll just go bad and need to be thrown out if they're not eaten, but it's hard to let go... :-P

I'm sure we could have made them bolder with some tinkering (like adding more yellow to the green to brighten it, and using more white eggs - we didn't really have enough! Would have been nice to have more whites for more of the bright greens, blues, and pinks. Note the dark orange one on the right - that's just from leaving a light brown egg in the yellow for quite a while, which turned out great.

Keep in mind the sparkling mica/egg white paint was applied by my four year old, so your results could easily be improved.. :) By the way, that washes off when getting ready to peel the egg. Also, we have plenty left for next year (so we either could have used more to darken colors or we'll at least get that much more use out of the kit!).
