I enjoyed reading this book. Daniel Goleman has a talent for giving the information in a clear and direct manner without losing the interest of the reader. The information has great application to myself as an educator. Understanding the ideas presented about Emotional Intelligence is a great benefit to leaders in all industries.

A very fine write up on emotional intelligence, it was my first read on such aspect and it was good food for thought that I can see myself resonate with at my work place.
I recommend this reading to all business advisory and consultancy professional people, who most often than not, find themselves having to habitually need to learn how to overcome their emotions for the success of their reason for existence. Their sense of purpose is unachievable without well ground elements of EI.

This book was a required text for my Leadership class. I am so glad to have read it. It really gives a clear yet very detailed explanation of what emotional intelligence is, why leaders need to understand what it is and how to harness their own EI, and describes the various different types of leadership styles; when to use which ones and which should somewhat be avoided. It also helped to define what kind of leader I am and want to be. This book was over all VERY useful and easy to comprehend. Beware of the last 3-4 chapters though, they are a little tougher because they delve slightly deeper into Neuroscience and psychology. But fascinating stuff!

Goleman has done it again and this may be his finest work. It's distiller to the really important features of EI and this book is a collection of his best articles. I would recommend this book to those who want to increase their EI or if your studying this great subject as a leader or student.

An excellent text. Daniel Goleman is brilliant. I used this for an assignment and was impressed. It was an easy read with very helpful insight into emotional intelligence, especially for someone who was coming across this topic for the first time. I would definitely recommend this.

A good topic to begin with. Examples are good. But the book can be more concise. Too many references to previous work.

A short and concise book with good information for both leading yourself and others. Individual aspects such as self-awareness and self-management are covered, and as we know you have to first be able to lead yourself before you can hope to lead others. The book also looks at the effectiveness of various leadership styles, such as democratic vs authoritative styles, in specific situations and generally. If you are in anyway interested in leadership this is a good book to have in your library.

This book is so detailed, and so well-written! I have quoted from it for my psychology courses as well as graduate leadership courses! I expected it to be dry, but it's very palatable!

Book contains interesting introduction and overview of leadership styles. Presented styles seems to be well described and easy to correlate with real life situations. Unfortunately other chapters of the book did not stay in my memory so strongly.

I liked how Goleman balances practical example with supporting research and evidence to form a compelling reason to embrace a strong understanding of emotional intelligent practices into any organisations leadership style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting content, well written, concise.

This is a good book. I haven't read Daniel Coleman's other books but this seems to be a concise summary of a number of different topics (or aspects) of the links between emotional intelligence and leadership. Each topic is dealt with in self contained chapters that could be described as stand alone essays. Each could probably be filled out to fill a whole book, and I think this may indeed be a summary of a number of different books, but there is nevertheless enough detail here to give an interested reader a good understanding of the points being made.

The topics raised are fascinating and seem to be backed up quite well by fairly rigorous research.

The book is well written and easy to read. I would say the topics in it are very important. I have leant a lot from it and would recommend it highly.
