It is sturdy and dependable. I use this chair for 40+ hours per week and it still has not developed any wobbles or squeaks. Truly, it is a *silent* seat. The seat itself is wide and comfortable. The foam and fabric doesn't show signs of wear/indentation where i sit. The tilt mechanism continues to work perfectly and provides a nice recline/stretch. As a few others have noted, the armrest material can be easily damaged - but the one place where mine shows wear is a place where (my own fault) i hooked it on the sharp underside of a drawer's track and i punctured it pulling the chair back out. The other arm rest is still in perfect condition after 1.5 years of daily use.
I'd buy this chair again and again. It performs better than commercial-grade Steelcase chairs i've used, at twice the price. I would not hesitate to recommend.
Assembly was very easy. Pop in the casters, bolt on the armrests, frame, and back; finally set the lift cylinder in the caster assembly and put the seat on top of that. Done. I used the shipping box (turned upside down) as a narrow work bench. I laid the seat upside down on the box with the front facing away, and bolted everything on. The box was perfect for that and quite sturdy. Also during assembly you should note that There is a nice little tag on the bottom of the seat that says "front." I missed that initially until I had attached one of the arm rests.
The screws and a hex key (allen wrench) are all on a flat cardboard backed package. The screws appear to have some thread lock compound on them which can make them a little difficult to turn. On one screw I nearly crossed the threads because the thread lock was all of the way down to the end of the screw. If you are a smaller person, or have low hand strength then you may have some difficulty tightening up the screws.
I've found this chair to be very comfortable for all day use. My last char was slightly more comfortable in the seat, but was wobbly and pinched the outside of my legs. So overall I find this chair much more comfortable. And there's absolutely zero wobble.
The angle of the back is also perfect for me, as it's nearly straight up. Most chairs, including other big/tall chairs make me feel like I'm lounging. This one supports my back in a position of good posture without causing back strain. Nor do I use the lumbar support (slides down and out of the way) but it's there if I need it. I feel more productive because of the back angle.
Two caveats that I would like to note are;
First, the arm rests are about a half inch too short for me. It's not much of an issue since I have my hands on the keyboard most of the time.
Second, when you tilt the chair back, it does so by dropping the back down rather than rocking the entire seat back. I prefer the drop down, but others may prefer the rock back style.
Overall I think that this chair seems well built, comfortable, and worth the money I paid for it. Of course, that will be influenced by how well it holds up in the coming years.
Note that while the chair is a HON, it is also their "Basyx" line, which is a little lower end and doesn't come with all the features of the regular HON lines. That means the armrests aren't as robust and the seatpan moves with the seat back. Once you get used to the quirks, it is still a good chair.
The next question is the durability of the fabric and the lift piston. We'll see how that goes.
Net is that this is a chair suited for the larger person, sturdy and appropriately sized.
UPDATED April, 2020:
I've had this chair for seven years now. I did replace the arm rests through Hon in 2018 for a modest price. The replacements are wearing well and likely are the design used on chairs manufactured today.
I just replaced the cylinder today. It has been wonky for about three years and Hon had sent me a warranty replacement in 2017. The replacement process seems simple enough, but the execution is a nightmare. The cylinder is essentially press-fit, but years of use really snug it up. It took me over an hour to do the replacement, of which one minute was putting in the replacement.
Other than that, I remain pleased with the chair and it has held up well. I'm now using it every day for over eight hours, which is why I decided to replace the cylinder.
