Charmed by the Bartender (Modern Love Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 6,236 ratings

Who knew sleeping with the enemy could be this fun?

Was the one night stand a good idea?

Well, no. Probably not in retrospect.

In my defense I had just moved back into my grandparent’s house, I’d lost my dream job, and a guy on Tinder had stood me up. It was like life had suddenly stamped ‘LOSER’ on my forehead.

So when the guy behind the bar started giving me THE look…you know, the one that promised I’d be screaming his name into the wee hours of the morning? When that guy also has the perfect amount of scruff on his chiseled chin, biceps bulging out of his t-shirt, and a cocky grin you knew he’d earned in the sack…when he gives you that look, you don’t bother to figure out what your six degrees of separation are. You jump on that horse and ride it!

Pun fully and completely intended. And accurate by the way.

I fully admit to feeling sorry for myself and acting impulsively, but by the time I’d figured out WHO the bartender was, I was already falling for him.

Whitney’s life is not turning out the way she planned either personally or professionally, so she decides to connect for a night of fun from someone she connected with on Tinder only to find herself stood up. The one bright spot of the evening was the connection she felt with Cole, the bartender, but when she wakes up in his bed alone her only thought is to flee and hopefully never see him again.

Fate had other ideas when he happens to be the brother of her best friend Tahlia’s fiancé and what she knows about him she doesn’t like. Although she despises him she would do anything for her best friend which includes working with him to secure a venue for Tahlia’s wedding. As they spend time together the sparks fly but between the past and the complications in the present they are in for a bumpy ride.

Witty banter, hot chemistry and not only do Whitney and Cole’s characters draw you in but there is a great cast of secondary characters as well. I thought the narrators did a great job at bringing the story and the characters to life.

The Bartender by Piper Rayne is hilarious, sexy, and an all around great read!

Whitney is back in town and down on her luck, so when she meets a sexy bartender, she figures, what the heck, and decides to give it a go, too bad she gets too drunk and can't remember what happened the previous night when she wakes up in his bed the next morning. A few weeks later when she runs into him again and realizes he is the enemy the guy she can't stand, things definitely get interesting. Cole has not idea why Whitney hates him so much, but does everything in his power to get her to give him the time of day.

When these two are forced to work together to help Whitney's best friend Tahlia and Cole's brother plan their wedding, Whit realizes she needs to work with him for the happiness of her best friend, and soon she realizes that maybe Cole isn't as bad as she seems. I love how Cole plays with her and makes her be nice to him to give her bits and pieces of information from the night she can't remember with him. The "unicorn cock" references are hilarious, and I really enjoyed the friendship that these two formed, even though you can tell they both definitely wanted more.

The chemistry between these two is undeniable, but I couldn't figure out why Whit wouldn't give Cole the chance I knew he wanted. Sure him standing her up all those years ago on a blind date was rude, but there had to be more to it, if not sue was just bitter and it would have really made me not like her character, thankfully there was and my heart broke when we got the full story. How Cole handled it was beautiful and it made me fall in love with him even more. One thing I really didn't like with these two was how adamant they were to hide their friendship and relationship from Tahlia. I think if she would have seen them together she would have understood, but in the end it kind of worked out better that it was a secret.

This was a hilarious and sexy read that had me laughing out loud and swooning over and over again. I fell hard for Cole even if I didn't want to at times. He may have been presented as a "bad boy" but he really wasn't. He was sweet and kind and the way he treated Whitney was something most girls would dream about. He truly did care about her and wanted to see her happy. It was Whitney that I had trouble with at times, she drove me insane with her indecisiveness and her back and forth, but in the end I really did enjoy her character.

Piper Rayne did an amazing job of kicking off a series of stand-alones with The Bartender. I really enjoyed Whitney and Cole's story and can't wait to read Tahlia's book now! The secondary characters in this book were awesome, and this story was one I wasn't able to put down. If you're looking for a swoony laugh out loud romance, definitely one-click this one today!

I one-clicked Charmed by the Bartender while it was on sale for free and I was not disappointed! It was the first book I'd read by Piper Rayne and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. The story and dialogue are funny, Whit and Cole's chemistry is off the charts and Whit's friends Lennon and Talia were a great addition. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next in the series!

When Whitney's life falls apart and she's forced to move in with her grandparents, she decides a few drinks and a one night stand will fill that void. But when sparks fly with the handsome bartended, Cole, who turns out to be someone she shares a past with... she has to decide whether or not to let him into her life.

The book is a nice slow burn romance with delicious depth and zany characters. The budding romance grows steadily throughout the book, but leaves enough pizzaz to dazzle the reader. The story was believable and had some good subplots within it that tantalize with a faint hint of drama.

I enjoyed that the book ended satisfactory, and wrapped up all the loose ends in a way that didn't seem fake or rushed. It was well thought out and believable...

The dry humping dog was a little weird, as was the friend with the unicorn van... but it brought a sense of comic relief into an otherwise heavy scene or two. Really, a job well done.

Not a bad book to read. Cute and satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars So einen Barkeeper würd ich auch gern treffen
Reviewed in Germany on August 30, 2018

3.0 out of 5 stars Jolie découverte
