These are amazing. We buy 8 O’clock beans in bulk and then cut them with more expensive beans. Current blend is 4 parts 8 o’clock, 1/2 part organic espresso beans, and 1/2 part hazelnut flavored beans. We also bought a good automatic grinder to keep the process as quick and easy as possible.
Now our coffee always tastes fresh, costs less per cup than even the Walmart brand in bulk, and no waste generated.
Protip: Buy 2 and while one cup is brewing, rinse the other one right into the garbage disposal. As an added bonus, the rinsed coffee grounds act as a gentle abrasive and keeps the garbage disposal clean and smelling fresh.
10/10 will buy more of these pods.
Update: It’s now been two years and we still use these exclusively in our Keurig. The same two we bought originally. The O-Rings are finally starting to get weak, so occasionally (rarely) one pops open and makes a mess... But we’re talking thousands and thousands of cups of coffee later. Amazing that they lasted this long. About to finally order a new pair.
Update 2: okay it’s now been four years. I never got around to ordering a new pair, because these are still working great, O-rings are still intact, the cups still snap closed nicely and do not pop open in our new Keurig (yes, they outlasted the Keurig I bought them for). Can’t even estimate how many thousand cups of coffee have gone through them (gotta be five digits), and some of the gold has begun to fade and that’s about it. A relative on a visit even put one in sideways and punctured the plastic on it but it still works fine, no grounds in the cup. Finally ordering another pair (for real this time) because we lost one of them. It’s somewhere in the house but we can’t find it and can’t have just one.
I don’t think I’ve ever recommended a product as wholeheartedly as I recommend this product. Absolutely fantastic performance and unbelievably durable. It would be near impossible to build a better pod than these.
See you in two more years maybe?
Update.
The seller contacted me and encouraged me to give it another try, so I did. I used it for 7 consecutive days followed by another 7 consecutive days of 2 competitive brands each. One was similar - purple plastic without the gold, the other was stainless steel with a purple hinged lid. These other 2 were both by the same maker.
Comparing the 2 purple plastic ones, it is definitely more attractive than the other filters I have. Impressive! I eventually got used to the smaller needle slot but didn't think that it made it taste better. Di Oro's cost 3x as much but looks 100x better and appears sturdier. The "other plastic purple" one's stainless steel filter appears to be discoloring - or something. My favorite is the stainless steel one with the hinged purple lid. The lip was thinner and I found it easier to insert the paper filter and securely fasten it quickly.
So I decided that it was worth a 5 star rating for it's impressive looks and the fact that it maintained it's "new" appearance. Because I was able to learn and adjust to the small slot for the bottom needle, I didn't feel as though that I should take away a star.
In order of preference: 1) stainless steel with hinged purple lid, 2) Di Oro's MaxBrew (this item), and 3) the "other purple plastic one."
Even though you don't need one to make great K-cup coffee, I use the unbleached filters to make it easy to remove the grounds after brewing. It's a snap to pull out the coffee pod and toss it. A quick rinse of the DI ORO and I'm ready to go. During these COVID times, I fill the DI ORO at my desk which can be messy. I highly recommend one of those scoop/funnels, which seems like overkill, but it's essential at work.
I had considered one of those all-stainless K-cups, but I'm glad I went with the DI ORO. The cup is really hot when it comes out of the machine and having the plastic part to grab onto is essential. Having the paper filter contain the steaming hot grounds in the pod is another essential.
The DI ORO is well built, and closes securely. I've been using it several times a day for a couple of months now and it has never leaked or interfered with the Keurig operation. It is very important to always make sure it is seated properly in the Keurig's holder. The hinge side goes in the right notch and you have to jiggle it a little bit to make sure the needle in the bottom goes into the DI ORO's slot. When it is inserted properly it sits flush with the top of the holder just like a disposable K-cup. After a few times, you get the hang of it pretty easily.
You have to experiment a little bit with the fineness of your coffee grind. For my setup, halfway between medium and fine works great. It should be a little finer than drip coffee grind. If you buy pre-ground coffee it works too, but I find I have to use a little more and pack it tighter to get a good extraction.
To say the least, using your own coffee makes a much better brew in the Keurig. You have to wonder how old the coffee is in those commercial K-cups. After tweaking it for a while, you can get a nice slow extraction which brews a tasty cup of coffee.
