I will never buy ASUS again! Laptop went kaput after 3 weeks, lost everything.
If you read this and still buy one, well, be sure to back up your files like every five minutes if you want to guard against losing them permanently or having to pay for third party data recovery. Asus takes no responsibility for the machine permanently fatally crashing, be it a Windows issue, or a combo of Windows and their firmware. Either way ,my three week old laptop does not work, cannot boot into windows. It is basically an electronic paperweight, lol. The screen says what you see in my uploaded picture. I was on phone with several Asus techs and they could not find a way around this. This does happen on other computers as I have googled this. So I think I'm getting a Macbook and I may never want to run Windows again unless I have to for like school or work or something. I think I will go Apple and maybe Linux. Seriously, I don't know what has happened to Microsoft. And then even if you pay good money to get a machine with Windows on it, they do not feel that you deserve free customer support and want you to pay if you didn't buy any additional MS software or subscriptions. I honesty do not ever want to buy anything from Asus or Microsoft again. I did not like the tech support, the way I was treated, and so forth and neither will say they have any responsibility in you losing all of your data even if it is something immensely important like your assignments for college. It is just your freaking problem. All you can do to feel justice is to leave your reviews on the internet to warn others and let other consumers make more educated decisions on where to spend their dollars. Yes, Apple laptop is going to cost me up the yazoo and the student discount is not all that much, but I want a reliable machine and I just don't have time for another Windows failure. The Dell machine is about the same price. My professor has a Mac and she says it lasts at least a good seven years. Plus the battery life if phenomenal, which I realize now, as a student needing to bring it to class, is very important. I see now too that it may be wiser to hold onto my old desktop as a backup as how would I be on a computer right now if I had gotten rid of this?About the laptop though, before dying, the most important other thing to consider, if a Windows 10 fatal crash does not scare you off, is the terrible battery life. If you need to take this out and about to college classes, library, Starbucks, etc. you will not get too far on 4 hours of battery life when you can get a laptop in the 8 to 12 hour range. And then if the laptop battery dies, good luck, because it seems this is what sent Windows 10 into the fatal crash on mine, and now I can't ever boot back into my laptop to recover my files. I came home from school, the battery was almost dead. I thought I plugged it in, but apparently had not pressed the cord in all the way so the power went out, poof, and the rest is history. When I tried to turn the machine back on, all I could get was that repair screen.Other than it being inoperable due to Windows failure, and the inherent bad battery life, it was okay laptop? Nice screen size, looked fine. There was one other hiccup I had that wound up being fixable - I couldn't play videos - turned out to be a setting in Chrome and in Edge that had to be adjusted. I won't get into details on that because I don't recommend this machine. But at first neither the ASUS tech, nor Amazon, knew how to fix this extremely easy to fix problem and so Amazon had to go through the hassle of sending me a whole new machine, which had the same flaw, lol. So I had to then send one back. Of course, now I have to send another one back. And to fix the problem in Edge, Asus says they have to transfer your call to MS because he's a hardware guy and it was a software issue. Heaps upon hours of my time has been wasted on this machine.

It's not mine it's my fathers replacement for his outdated slow and clunky laptop. Every aspect has been a breeze in setting up, it's perfect. I love the 4K touchscreen and fingerprint logins, the elegance of the USB-C to 4K external monitor @60hz sets itself up you just customize the settings to your liking. He only needs one external 4K monitor but could easily accommodate another. It's fast to start and responsive even with heavy programs. If I can remember where his laptop will be when he comes to collect. It's become my buddy. The screen is visually appealing I don't need glasses and being 4K obviously more can be fit onto the screen, it's like having a larger screen with more space yet without a larger screen, if that makes sense. A little reflection from the glass is my only con. Asus has been my favorite and now even more. Some other brands have been problematic. This is a really nice laptop I love very much and will miss when handed over, if I remember my laptop is this new one and his is my old one!

    UPDATE 08/28/2018
I replaced the defective screen for a true IPS 8 bits color depth one, this resolve the washed color problem. Now I notice when the laptop is processing high demand tasks (like playing a game), there is a very annoying issue. There is a little batery drain even with the laptop is plugged in! I don't know what is causing this, but I know that I regret buying this laptop. Also Intel 630 integrated graphics works awfull with a 4k panel windows interface. Very laggy. Desapointed, and the garantee is only for North America. Nice, last ASUS I buy.

    UPDATE 10/05/2018
I wake up to start to work like every day... Laptop is dead. Not even shows up the charging light when I plug in. Does not respond to anything, dead. I had to take it to an expert technician. Only 3 month of use... Can't beleive Asus goes to the market with this. Hope I can revive it, can't beleive I throught my money in this piece of junk.

This review is divided in two parts. One part to Asus and the other to Amazon.

The laptop is great in general. Great power, hardware, nice keyboard and touchpad, very slim. Feels very good quality on your hands. The two terrible problems: the awful screen (TFT with 6 bits color deph) and the batery (very short autonomy).

First of all, my laptop comes with a defective screen. I don't know how are the quality tests in Asus but the display has very washed colors and the right side of the display had a mild green tint, that affects in some manner the colors you see. I'm a web developer and designer and this is really important for my work. I tried with no success everything related to drivers and software to resolve this issue.

Here comes the thing. I'm from Latin America (this model does not reach my country) and it seems Asus USA warranty avoids Latin America countries. So they only gives you the stores for you to repair it, nothing more. No refund, no display. They take no responsability for their products in these countries. The agents knowledge about their products in the support page is terrible. Very disapointed with the brand. Before this I had an Asus N550JK with a beatiful ISP display. I don't know how accurate are the quality tests now on new models.

On the other hand, Amazon. This has been the best experience I had buying a product. All agents very very receptives and friendly, 100% willing to solve the problem. I solved this issue buying a new display (8 bits color depth, as it should be in this segment at least) and Amazon refund all the costs of the reparation. Really, very happy with Amazon support.

Thanks Amazon again for the kindness and for resolve the problem, very happy with the product now I resolved the issue. Asus, you have to improve quality checks and agents knowledge in support page. Also you have thank Amazon for taking responsability for your product.

I've had this laptop for about a month now. I'm a graphic designer, and so I'm often using a lot of software that is very resource intensive. This laptop is fast and very efficient. The case build quality is very nice, and the 4k display is also excellent. The speakers are also pretty decent quality; they're loud and only lacking a little bit of balance on the bass side of things. My only gripe is the battery life; If you're just surfing the web or working on documents, the battery life will probably suit you just fine. However, working on multiple photoshop files at once can at times prove too much for the battery. On a different note, this laptop's Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics card is sufficient for your typical games on at least 'good' graphics settings. I got this machine mostly for the display quality and its processing power, but you could probably get a similar machine for a tad cheaper. I love this laptop because it came with every single bell and whistle I was looking for (4k touchscreen, 3 usb ports, i7 processor, quality case, etc.). Overall, this is a great machine that I would recommend to anyone who can afford it.

I have only used Asus laptops and I have always had a positive experience with years of life out of all of them. I would never another brand laptop for business use, they are the best available in my view if you buy the quality

    The Finish:
I love the brushed finish on the whole unit lid and deck. Looks stainless steel almost very cool.

    Display:
The 4K was more than i needed for business purposes but nice to know i have it if i need it. The system automatically scales the font sized + 250% so they are not too small.

    Performance:
The SSD drive in the primary position allows this system to boot from a cold start to desktop in about 20 secs. Cant ask for more than that.

    Hard Drives:
M.2 SSD stick for the main OS drive and a 1 TB is a 2.5 HDD drive in a second bay perfect for DATA. See pic attached.

    Memory:
2 slots but ships with a single 16G chip (samsung). Since 16g is max on this unit, the 2nd slot is empty. I would have shipped it with 2 x 8g chips to take advantage of dual channel memory allocation.

    The Guts:
Some Asus laptops are difficult to open this one was pretty easy. All phillip screws on the bottom side allows you to snap the cover off for a peak inside.

    USB Ports:
    There are 2 x USB 2.0 ports and a multi reader SD slot on the right side, and 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 3.1 Type-C, 1 HDMI and 1 x RJ45 on the left side.

Fingerprint reader on the touchpad is a nice touch.

I am happy with the quality of this unit.

This laptop is amazing. Not sure why people swap the optane memory. It's what makes the comp so freaken fast.

At the time of writing, this laptop's specs are equal to double the price i paid for it. I would only recommend upgrading to an ssd and 16gb 2666mhz ram. But with the money you are not spending on an equal spec'd laptop, the extra cost of the ram and ssd is still less than a similar spec laptop.

Power wise I can run street fighter 5, CS:GO on full res everything high. No issues there.

Work wise, it is more than capable of video and graphic edits as a daily driver.

Take advantage of the optane memory. It might take a few times of booting up and opening up and closing programs but once your computer knows what you like to do, the speed is quite noticeable. The comp has to learn your comp usage first.

    Battery sucks.

This product is well rounded, it is great for office work and studying, and it can also run most games flawlessly. The speakers are also very good for a laptop. I am happy with my purchase, however I wish I would have gotten a model with 16GB of ram instead of 8. I also regret not buying a laptop with a touchscreen as it would be useful for lectures in university. Overall it is a very well rounded laptop and a lot better than any I have ever had. The 16GB of optane memory doesn't work well at the start but once it starts to memorize tasks it speeds up processes an incredible amount. I also wish this laptop had SSD storage instead of HDD. However for the price it is one of the best you can buy, I would recommend this. Also a side note; 15.6 inches is a little too big for class, however it is perfect for games and movies.

Indeed ASUS has done a great job on this device. The quality of the body as well as the performance is awesome for this price. The Optane technology boosts the boot process significantly. This technology enhances the device speed in working with regularly used software a lot. If the Optane memory is 32 GB, then the actual working speed of this device with a usual HDD is as twice as the M.2 SATA SSDs which is a neat technology.

The only weakness that is notable is its battery endurance which is not in general in the class of such laptop. If you are mature enough not to be a showy person, never waist your money on MacBook pro when such a nice product is out there.

In overall, fully satisfied with the device, and I highly recommend it.
