I adore fairytales and this reworking of Rapunzel into modern day is just perfect. I loved all the connections between this story and the fairytale. It is definitely my new favorite fairytale retelling.

“But how does a simple girl from a small town spend a week with a prince and say farewell with her wits and will intact?”

Bella doesn’t need the prince to rescue her from her tower and jailer. She finds her own strength when the going gets tough.

“But I’m greedy,” he murmured. “I won’t give you up.”
“Let’s not ask for eternity,” she said softly, “when we have now.”

The story was sweet and romantic, so easy to read that I devoured it in one afternoon. A story that fit nicely into a novella and never felt rushed or cut short.

“She was so guileless, so sincere and straightforward, he wished he could see the world through her brown eyes instead of his own far-more-jaded blue.”

I paid $2.99 for this and I regret it. Should have cost $.99. I knew it was a novella when I bought it, so I had no issue that it was short. However, it was too sweet, too bland. There was no substance. I have read books that were shorter where I felt more of a connection than I did to this book.

My opinion. You may love it.

I really love reading Katy's stories. However, I was reminded why I mostly avoid Novellas! Novellas are too quick and I always feel like I have missed out on so much. That being said...

Sweet, kind Bella is really put upon by the nasty godmother. Bella works day in and day out at her godmother's hair salon, and then goes home to clean and cook. Bella is cleaning up the salon after closing when Nico comes knocking on the door, desperate for help for his sister. Bella agrees to help out, having no idea that she is really helping out a real prince and princess. Nico pursues, Bella tries to keep away but fails, and love blossoms and grows.

This is a really sweet short story. So much I wish was here - what happens to the nasty godmother? Does she get hers? Is there a surprise inheritance that saves the prince? A vineyard still in Bella's name? Something? Left a little unsatisfied, but all in all a sweet little read.

And our heroine is beyond worthy with her grit and determination. The twists to this story had me in tears at times and enough chemistry to light up a nighttime sky. I have read all of her books in this series with Don’t Speak being my favorite. This story was too short and as a result it seemed like parts of the story were rushed like Bella and Nico falling in love in just 4 days. The story had a lot of potential but ended up being just ok to me.
