The perfect kit bag (2 bodies)

The perfect kit bag (2 bodies)
Wonderfully designed bag. I bought this to replace a Kata bag I'd had for about six years. The Kata bag did the job, but I much prefer this design. There are two primary reasons why: it stands up, where the Kata bag would fall over due to weight distribution. Second, this bag's tripod carry system is much more logical. The Kata bag straps would come loose when I had the tripod attached, and on the old bag, the tripod could only be mounted on the left or right of the bag, which unbalanced everything. After a few hours, that resulted in a backache. This bag centers the tripod, which makes perfect sense for weight distribution.I've attached two photos to this review, which clearly show that the Street Walker holds my two Canon camera bodies, seven lenses, and a bunch of assorted extra gear for remote triggering and video capture. The Street Walker screams quality and intentional engineering.

I own numerous Think Tank products, and like all the others, this one is high quality, thoughtfully designed and overall, a great buy.

Compared to the Think Tank "Glass Taxi" (which I also own), this one is similar but perhaps 50% larger inside, with an additional compartment giving you room for a laptop. This backpack fits a pro-sized DSLR with a large, heavy zoom lens attached in the middle compartment, and then numerous other lenses and accessories along the edge compartments. There's room for a second body, flashes and so forth. It includes adequate foam dividers, making the interior layout infinitely adaptable, as well as a number of small pouches and pockets inside and out for a variety of other items. Tripods or monopods can be attached to the outside, and Think Tank's very good Speed Belt can also be used to help distribute the weight and also to attach additional items if you need things that don't fit inside. It also comes with a waterproof cover that can be attached quickly in the event of sudden downpour.

The PC compartment is a little snug if you have a large laptop. My travel laptop tends to be a compact Lenovo tablet, and it fits - but barely. I don't believe any 17" laptop - or anything really thick - would fit comfortably.

To give you an idea, right now inside the bag I have:

- Nikon D3x with 80-400 zoom attached
- Nikon D300 with MB10 grip
- Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 zoom
- Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 zoom
- Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 zoom
- Nikon 16-85mm DX lens
- Nikon 10.5mm DX lens
- Nikon 60mm 2.8 AFS macro lens
- Lensbaby Composer
- SB900 flash
- Lenovo tablet PC
- My Amazon Kindle
- Various memory cards, filters, cables, spare batteries, etc

Outside the pack, I have either a Monostat Carbon-Fiber monopod or else a full-sized Gitzo tripod. Note that a tripod tends to obstruct access to some of the exterior pockets.

Fully loaded, this bag gets to be really heavy, but the excellent straps are well padded and are easily adjusted to distribute the weight fairly well. It includes waist or chest straps, and with Think Tank's larger Speed Belt attached, there's even better support. I often use it without the waist or chest straps as a shoulder bag, and unlike some other brands I've tried, the Think Tank stays put without any tendency to slide off my shoulder.

In spite of holding all this equipment, it's still a fairly compact bag and so far I haven't had any trouble getting it on crowded airplanes. It fits in any overhead bin, as well as under the seat in front of you, although larger tripods could make this difficult. If I'm flying, I lean towards packing my tripod in my luggage and this makes it much more streamlined.

Construction quality is very good, and all zippers, pouches and so on seem rugged and likely to stand up to a lot of day to day use.

Overall, highly recommended.

UPDATE: After spending a few weeks lugging my gear in the Streetwalker Hard Drive all over Hawaii, I'm more convinced that this is the perfect combination of size and features. Any bigger, I wouldn't have been able to carry it (as is, the weight is pretty tough to handle on all-day outings). Any smaller, I would have needed to leave some essential item home. And in the heat of the moment, it has proven trouble-free and easy to get to any of the contents with a minimum of hassle. I like it so much that I decided to sell my Glass Taxi, which I also liked quite a bit. Great job Think Tank!

This bag fits nearly everything I own in camera equipment. Large professional lenses, filter, flashes, Gary Fong lightsphere and most importantly MY TRIPOD!! This is the best possible way to carry a tripod as it is slightly lower and the head is barely higher than the book bag. The weight balance is perfect, and straps are comforatble enough. This is a big pack though. You might want a second pack for a day of walking around town if you can swing it. But this will cary everything. The other smaller packs may not.Definitely worth the price, best pack I have owned.

I was planning to use this as a carry on bag so I didn't have to check my camera gear. It won't work as a carry on, particularly on smaller planes. While it might work on some airlines, it is the depth or length measurement that kicks it out of the overhead - typically 22" tall/high x 14" wide, by 9" depth/length. This is 21.1" x 12.75" x 11.5". Even removing gear, it would not fit into the overhead or under the seat. Positively: It does conveniently fit a 15" Macbook Pro in the rear compartment along with a padded bag holding cord/plug, etc.. Since it is big, it fits a ton of lenses and gear. Lots of removable protection for your stuff. Liked the organization and numbers of pockets. More cons: one side of the padding is skinnier than the other side which impacts how you can rearrange and pack your gear. I'm glad I packed my laptop in a padded bag since I had to remove the laptop and check the rest of my camera gear on the initial flight. On my return, I purchased a cheap day bag and pulled out the padding from this bag which I used to devise a bag that was suitable for carry on purposes for my camera & gear and bought a tote to stuff my laptop in. This was also not easy to work out of for photographing either. The tripod attachment was hit and miss - got into the way. It was hard to change lenses as you need a bigger work area to lay it open and grab the lens. Still in search of the perfect camera bag.

I like this bag...some. It has a load of room for all the photo gear you want, bodies, lenses, etc. But it is BIG and the rest of its features are lacking. The dividers worry me cause they are so thin. Also, though back padding is pretty decent, when pretty loaded up, I personally don't find the back comfortable, nor the straps (for reference, I'm 6' and about 160. Maybe I'm too skinny). The pocket for the little stuff (mem cards, batts, etc) is decent; the side pockets are ok for 1/2 a sandwich or a couple snack bars. BUT, the elastic pockets aren't big enough for more than the smallest water bottle. It will strap a tripod down ok and it will hold my 15.4 laptop. Overall, seems like a pretty big box with some semi- decent padding that has a lot of room for bodies/lenses. I would not recommend this ever for a hiking bag but, if you want to get a bunch of bodies/lenses/flashes from point A to B, this one looks good doing it...if you want to spend that much. Mine is going back and then I can get 2 other bags to hike with and have money left over for lunch.

EOS 5D Mark III, EF 24-70 2.8L II USM, EF 70-200 2.8L IS II USM, EF 16-35 2.8L II USM, EF 100 Macro 2.8L IS USM, Extender EF 2 x III, Speedlite 600EX-RT, Transmitter ST-E3-RT, Batterieladegerät und Fernauslöser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes - This is an excellent camera bag
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 11, 2013
Needed a bigger bag as my gear "collection" has increased. Lowepro shoulder bag that I was using is cumbersome and painful for heavy loads. I was going to get the Airport Commuter but the Streetwalker Harddrive is only 1/2 inch narrower but nearly 3 inches taller so will fit more, although a little long for Ryanair carry on allowance but only 3/4 inches so "shouldn't" attract attention..

This Backpack is also £80 cheaper than the Tamrac Expedition 8X that I was looking at and £100 cheaper then the Lowepro 400 AW. These all have roughly the same internal storage space but the Tamrac and Lowepro have more padding for hiking protection in rougher environments. The padding on this Think Tank is more than adequate for all most situations.

This Think Tank is very well built. The zippers are awesome, very smooth and robust and a different level to anything I've used in the past. The internal storage is very adaptable and flexible. I have now set it up with the following:-

Nikon D600 with Grip and 70-200 f2.8 hood reversed
Nikon D300 with 300mm AF-S f4 attached
Nikon 85mm f1.8G upright
Nikon 50mm f1.8D upright
NIkon 18-35 G upright
Nikon 28-105 upright - Dog Flea Collar Lens Hood goes in front pocket
Nikon 1.4 TC under Nikon SB 400 Flash
One spare pocket for a future macro lens purchase maybe

In the front upper pockets:-
Blackrapid RS-5 strap
Optech neck strap
Giottos Rocket Blower
Dog Flea Collar
Waterproof cover for bag

Internal zipped compartments:-
Cards, sensor cleaning gear, light data cables - a multitude of other things

Lower external front pockets - to hold 2 tripod legs but to be honest the tripod cup can hold this which frees up the front pocket for some food and drink supplies for example.

Total weight of all the above is 10.2Kg ( ~ 23 lbs )

To achieve the above configuration required some thought and time and re-layout of all the preset dividers.

On the outside of the bag there are pockets for water bottles, and additional pockets on the inside and outside.. The laptop pocket is a single zipper opening up a thin padded area at the back of the backpack, and in this section you can easily store a 15” MacBook Pro.

This bag is very comfortable to wear and carry fully loaded. Take some time to adjust the straps to fit well to your own size and preference and it's a great fit.

The only thing I miss is another carry handle on one of the sides.

In summary:-

Loads of storage space
Adaptable layout and uses
Light, small and discreet
Very well built and sturdy
Fits most airline carry on requirements
Very comfortable to wear & carry
Padding protects internal gear adequately - don't need the additional 4 inch side padding on other Backpacks
