Supported by state-of-the-art motion analysis research, "short game guru to the pros" James Sieckmann unveils his "finesse wedge" swing -- a proven and pragmatic way to learn, practice, and perform with each wedge in the bag in every situation -- and shows players that upgrading their short game is possible.

Since James Sieckmann first revealed his short-game methods two decades ago, he has amassed a cultlike following of more than seventy PGA and LPGA Tour disciples and has been dubbed the “short-game guru to the pros” (GOLF Magazine). Using his system, several of Sieckmann’s students have become some of the best short-game players of the modern era. A two-time winner on the PGA Tour jumped 117 spots in the Sand Save rankings in one season; another client quickly jumped 81 spots in Scrambling percentage.

The benefits of a good short game are undisputed. Unfortunately, players at all levels fail to develop effective short-game skills because instructors teach the exact opposite of the correct technique. Sieckmann studied the greatest short-game players in recent memory—including Seve Ballesteros, Corey Pavin, and Raymond Floyd—to develop a proven and pragmatic way to learn, practice, and perform with each wedge in every situation. His unique observations, which were later verified by motion capture technology, work equally well for amateurs and pros.

In his long-awaited first book, Sieckmann opens up his vault of secrets for all golfers. After breaking down the basics, he presents a session-by-session training and practice guide—the same one he creates for his tour clients—to help the reader develop and sustain correct habits, avoid common flaws, and master essential skills. Next, Sieckmann explains how to optimize a player’s wedge swing for every scenario. An easy-to-learn and easy-to-use system, Your Short Game Solution will be the go-to guide anywhere golf is played.

Praise for James Sieckmann

In his new book, he will conclusively show you what the greatest short-game players have in common and how you can improve your technique, both physically and mentally. His information is spot-on, and you will no longer worry when you miss a green!”

—BRAD FAXON, eight-time PGA Tour Player

“Improving your short game is the fastest way to improve your score. Understanding what to work on and how to work on it is essential. James is trusted by the best players in the world because he makes a complex subject simple and he knows how to evaluate what is really affecting your short game. This book will help lower your scores, period.”

“James Sieckmann is the number one short-game teacher in the world, and everyone who is serious about improving their short game needs to own Your Short Game Solution . “Every word of Your Short Game Solution is a triumph. The short game is so important for the senior player, and when I use Sieckmann’s techniques on the course, other players often ask me what I am doing that allows such precision with ordinarily difficult shots. It’s breakthrough stuff that will make a big difference to your game.”

—TERRY MCGUIRK, chairman and CEO of the Atlanta Braves

This IS my short game! He's the bounce king. I really truly never understood how to use the bounce in my short game, now my chips and pitches and sand shots are the same as the pros, not because I'm special but because I followed the instruction in this book. I practice a lot, and it took me a couple months before I could do it, but when I got it ... Oh my Lord, it's like I'm cheating! The bounce is a devastating short game weapon that most golfers have no idea how to use. Now I can get up and down out of a phone booth underwater. The key, as he explains, is to follow his set up instructions with great perfection and detail. Don't skimp on mastering the basics. You'll be so glad you bought this book and followed his instructions when you knock 5 strokes off your index! It's like magic!!!

Update 4/14/21:

When I first bought this book, it was because my "bump and run technique" that had served me so well wasn't working on difficult courses, like the one at the country club I'd joined. It was fine when I had a great lie and tons of green to work with, and I practiced so much that I was able to get the most out of it. However, when I watched great players chip, I'd always noticed--but tried to ignore--that their chips all looked the same, but mine was different. (Later, I'd learn that they used the bounce, and I didn't) So, I looked into it and a friend recommended J.S.. I'll admit, it took a lot of practice to get the chipping down. I can't recommend enough following J.S.'s advice of mastering the set-up. Just do it, and trust the process. After a few months I started to get the feel. And, you can read above for the results. Quite frankly, I can do anything a typical pro can do. And that may sound arrogant, but it's not. I'm not saying I am consistent like a pro, what I'm saying is that I have every short game shot that a pro has, and when I'm on I do the same thing pros do, chips, pitches, sand. It's not the full swing, which takes years and years to master the technique, and again, quite frankly, most golfers, even low handicappers, will never do. The short game IS master-able--the technique, that is.
For instance, I used to think my pitches were just mini-full swings and I simply felt it. Now, using J.S.'s technique, I have 9 stock shots, and I hit them pretty consistently because it's not hard. My 60 degree, has a 32 yarder, 50 yarders and 73 yarder. I typically hit those numbers within a couple yards, and I adjust off those numbers per the conditions. Do I hit garbage shots? Of course, but it's not because I don't own the technique. It's because I failed the execution. Again, unlike with the full swing, it's not technique that separates me from elite players, it's consistency. Think of it this way: The drive is like an NBA dunk. No matter how good you are, you'll never dunk like MJ, nor will you drive it like Rory (my bombs are 280, his are 350!), but the short game is different. YOU CAN chip and pitch like a pro. I do, and I'm not special nor particularly athletic.

Buy this book and let me know your progress. I'm on IG as is J.S..

I read this book once all the way through, picking the "low hanging fruit" that was obvious flaws to my wedge game. I saw dramatic results right away. My confidence also went up. I was always intimidated by shots around the greens, from 10 yards and in. Not any more. These shots are now fun because Im getting closer to the pin than ever before, and I enjoy the challenge.
Now I am reading the book for a second time, and diligently doing my journal work. James is a great teacher, and has the gift of experience that allows him to explain in ways that are easy to picture and to understand.
Thanks for you time and effort, James. The book is a real gift.

Very informative book. Very focused on 100 yards and in and provides a clear rationale for the strategies that he proposes. Further, there are specific practice regimens proposed to fix specific flaws in ones game. The oversell practice plans are valuable for those of us who only have sporadic time and range access for practicing. I would give it 5 stars except for two shortcomings. Chapter 8 is superficial and of little help. There are complete books on this topic and it is not only relevant to the short game. Secondly, there is no discussion of putting!

First, if you are already accomplished with chipping and pitching, don't bother with this book. It is truly for those of us who are not getting the ball close with the old methods. Sieckmann's method is based upon years of studying the best short game players, especially Seve Ballesteros. His method is totally at odds with conventional wisdom that a chip is a miniature full swing. Sieckmann's approach is that it is very different and that chipping and short pitching are "finesse wedge" shots that all use the same swing with different ball placement for different trajectories and different swing lengths for different distances. For example, he requires the head to move forward instead of staying behind the ball and that the downswing is from the arms not the hips starting the swing. You cannot expand this swing and achieve a meaningful full swing. He spends a lot of time in the early chapters explaining how he arrived at this method then spends several chapters on how to accomplish the swing. There are lots of photos explaining the right way as well as swings flaws one might have and how to fix each one (he lists 14 flaws and fixes.) He also has a number of links to examples of his students performing, ie. Cameron Tinegale demonstrating how to use same swing to achieve different distance and trajectories. If you look up Sieckmann on You Tube you will find a few videos where he demonstrates his swings. I have only studied and practiced this method for about a week including making a journal as he suggests and comparing my swings with his examples. Today I played for the first time in a while and tried his method. I can say that for me it works. I was chipping and short pitching far better than in the past. I just need for practice and judging distances. I had at least four "finesse wedge" shots that left putts of three feet or less when normally I don't have more than one. I believe this is the best short game instruction I have ever had and it makes sense. However, it is different. If you are good now, this probably won't help you, but if you can't get it done now, it is a real opportunity. I also got out of three bunkers today following his directions. I am looking with great expectation for his distance wedge instruction.

Sieckmann has put together a Bible of the greatest techniques used by the best of all time going all the way back to Hogan and beyond. I read the book, did some drills at home and watched his YouTube videos. I improved my short game dramatically by the third round. Techniques used on Tour by a brilliant teacher who really knows how to communicate. Thanks, James for sharing what you've learned. I have all 3 books and highly recommend them only to golfers who want to lower their scores.

I’ve struggled with chipping and pitching, tried different lessons but struggled with frequent chunks or thins and as a result my handicap has stalled at 11.

I thought I would give this a go to try and find any nuggets to help me in my challenge.

Initially the first chapter or two is just a self pay on the back by the author.

When you get to the skills it is well worth the read and it it doesn’t just contain nuggets but an actual gold mine of knowledge.

It does take practice to master, the troubleshooting scenarios help to push you in the right direction. I now feel confident to take this to the course and practice for real having spent some time in the garden and on the mats and nets.

I am sure the skills this book once entrenched will help me break into single figures I thoroughly recommend it, it is also worth watching the odd YouTube he has available to embed the knowledge.
