Pros: The keyboard is really nice, keys are blazing fast and the quality is really good. the aluminum finish is freaking beautiful makes that reflection of the red leds between the keys and the keys itself feels like heaven to press, i cam from Razer blackwidow ultimate 2014 and i tell you k70 rapidfire is way better! the software is so flexible with some LED effects available, you can mix more than one effect to make your own, i didnt know the non-rgb version had this option in the software but it was good to see it. the volume wheel is really nice since my old blackwidow didnt have that you had to use fn keys and F1,F2,F3 which isnt really that convenient, volume wheel is way better.
Cons: the wrist rest has clips on the backside that latches to the kayboard to prevent it from falling off one of these clips was broken and the other 3 were about to get broken, its fairly designed in away that makes it really weak. Amazon CS told me i can return it for full refund or replacement or i can take partial refund which is USD 20.00, i took the refund since the keyboard itself was working very well.
i kinda hoped the USd pass-through would support USB3.0 or 3.1 but its not a big deal.
I used a K70 (the prior model) for a few years and then, after an unfortunate water accident, I switched to the highly rated Chorma Blackwidow from Razer. That keyboard was fine, but it lacks the media keys and super convenient volume control that is on Corsair mechanical keyboards. Also, while fine for gaming, the Razer keyboard was very fatiguing to type on and did not make for a good, all around keyboard.
That brings me to this beauty. It is noticeably smoother to me than the Razer, but also the previous K70. I actually still use that one at my work, so I have a good point of comparison. The keys on this new model just feel more expensive. They are the same Cherry Red keys, but with a shorter actuation. I can't really explain it, but this newer model just feels more expensive. Like it is was made with more precision. These keys are rated at 50 million keystrokes, which is ten times the normal 5 million you see on other keyboards. Not sure how you test that, but they sure feel solid.
Similar to other Corsair mechanical keyboard, this thing weighs a ton. It definitely feels like a $100 keyboard. Which is good, because it costs that much.
My only complaint with this otherwise amazing keyboard is that the shift key is a little mushy when pushed from the edge (which is where your pinky finger is going to hit it). It is okay, but this mush stands out next to the super tight and crisp letters that you press while typing. Still, even with that issue my WPM is much higher on this than it was on the Chorma. I really enjoy the lighter, smoother key presses.
I can't really tell if the RAPIDFIRE's shorter actuation actually makes a difference in gaming, but a quicker key activation can't hurt.
This is a premium keyboard, but I feel like the craftsmanship is worth it.
If you're looking for a comfortable easy to press non obnoxiously clicky keyboard, and you don't mind having a plastic wrist rest and no macro keys this could be a great option for you. Despite the length of the negatives and me being overly picky list, this is a very good keyboard that has it where it counts- a good experience while gaming.
Pros
+The key spacing is quite well done, it's comfortable and it makes it harder to fat finger keys.
+The keys low actuation force is quite nice for any length gaming session, it's just easy on the fingers.
+The clicks aren't obnoxious (for the RAPIDFIRE), they're audible but not annoyingly so like some of the competition.
+The backlight is quite bright
+Optional textured gaming key caps
Cons (I'm overly picky to try to be overly informative for people that can't physically touch this keyboard. This list does not negate the fact that this is a very good keyboard)
-The wrist rest is a generic hunk of plastic that falls substantially short of Razer's pillow wrist rest.
-The keys actuat with such little force (even at the top) that if you rest your hands on the keys, they'll actuat.
-The backlighting is limited to 1 color, red
-The software while fairly dexterous in it's uses, is unintuitive and it will take some time to find what you're looking for.
-The lack of macro keys in this price bracket is a con (if you want them) because it's competition does have them.
-No option for a normal textured space bar key cap.
-Textured key caps (optional so this isn't a big negative) have large edges that are uncomfortable to press when you miss. You could argue this will help you overtime be more accurate- I believe I would just get used to pressing the peaks instead.
