That being said, the above cage is HUGE!! It's nearly 6' tall with the stand, 3' long and 2' deep, and it's very heavy. Since I'm a college student with limited space and who moves a lot, I was looking for something big enough to give my two chinchillas plenty of space, but small and light enough to move around often.
After some searching, I found this cage. The reviews are awful for ferrets but I was willing to give it a shot. I've had it nearly 2 months now and it serves my purpose nicely. Here are my pros and cons for this cage.
Pros
Lightweight
Easy to assemble
Easy to roll around in small areas
Spacious enough for 2 (very close) Chinchillas
Small enough to collapse and transport easily
Sturdy once shelves are latched in place
Cons
Cheap plastic shelving (they chew them up quickly)
Cannot support a lot of weight (can't keep a lot of toys or huts at one time)
Ramps are hard to assemble (I didn't put them in because the girls don't use them anyway)
Access doors are not secure at all (an escape artist can easily shake them off and they fall off when opened)
Wire bars too widely spaced for my liking (but it is a "ferret" cage)
Overall: This is not a good quality cage and should not be a first option for a permanent pet cage. However, since it's easy to move and pretty spacious, I'm happy keeping my girls in it for long periods of time. Especially considering they lived in a roughly 18"x24"x22" cage for nearly 3 months when I first got them.
If like me, your getting this because you need something more convenient and portable than a huge wire cage, here are some tips for making it work.
1. Use a wet/dry vac to clean up the poop and fur that accumulates in and around the cage (I use a 1 gallon Stanley model from Walmart. Also mine use a litter pan with bedding to pee.)
2. As shelving becomes worn and chewed, replace it with chinchilla safe wood shelves.
3. Rotate toys and houses to decrease the weight load on the cage and make it last longer.
4. Put your heaviest stuff in the very bottom pan instead of the shelves.
This is hard to clean,
I bought this because it was way cheap, but I probably should have saved up for a more expensive cage like a critter nation.
The ladders broke, they never actually worked properly anyways . The circle slide never clicked into place, so I just done use them
