She made a career out of lies. He's a player ready to settle down. Can they fake it till they make it into each other's arms?

Catie Bloom dreads being found out as a hot mess. So when the high-profile domestic goddess’s supposedly perfect life is scheduled for a TV special, she’s desperate to hide the slovenly reality while she scrambles to learn to cook and find a studly pretend hubby. With her future on the line, she reluctantly accepts the office playboy’s lifeline to help her cover up the cracks and look the part…

Sportswriter Sam Harding buries authenticity behind his breezy charm. Though he knows Catie’s less-than-tidy secret, he’s frustrated when his lady’s man reputation gets in the way of intriguing the one woman who holds his heart. So when he discovers her goose could be cooked, he jumps at the chance to stand in as her handsome prince.

As Catie struggles with burned offerings, her growing attraction to Sam is a grease fire waiting to happen. While Sam worries if he keeps his desires hidden for much longer, he’ll lose his opportunity to move from bogus husband to the real deal.

Is their passion about to be roasted, or can they whip up a gourmet romance?

The Misadventures of Catie Bloom is the hilarious first book in the Bloom Sisters romantic comedy series. It’s a dash of Sophie Kinsella’s Can You Keep a Secret, with a helping of Christmas in Connecticut, and a recipe all its own, mixed into a delicious and romantic romp.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A quick and snappy read...the ending was cute and heart-warming" -Reader's Favorite review "I truly loved this novel! It was so well plotted out and well written and something really special. I loved cheering from the sidelines for everyone involved. Found myself giggling and ranting at the characters to just DO IT ALREADY! I loved the love triangle, I mean love square maybe? For this involved 2 hotties and 2 adorable sisters! If you are in the market for a funny and realistic romantic comedy than this is the book for you!" -Eating Between the Lines "The Misadventures of Catie Bloom is a hilarious disaster story. It could easily become a hit rom-com in the big screen. This book was like a balm to any sore or ache. This will absolutely make you forget all your discomfort. It was so hilarious and insane." -I Am Not a Bookworm "This story had me laughing out loud so much I think my husband thought I was crazy. The characters were real--imperfect, vulnerable, and committed. You will fall in love with the Bloom sisters." -Bella's Blog

I fell in love with the book and with Brooke Stanton's writing and style. The realistic aspect of the story got me hooked right from the start. If this was made into a film, I would watch it, crossing my fingers that the screenplay would be as good. In a way, this reminded me of the I Love Lucy sitcom, where the lead protagonist got into all kinds of unimaginable situations but that you know deep down could happen to anyone. It was hilarious, upsetting, romantic, and everything a good book should be.

Catie is a cute, good-hearted, well-intentioned klutz who has somehow managed to (mostly by accident) turn herself into a TV celebrity domestic goddess. The only problem is - it's all a facade. She can't cook. She can'r even sort her own underwear. It is also the story of her sister, Natalie, who is the exact opposite and always coming to Catie's rescue. This is an entertaining comedy of errors. It's a light, easy read - very entertaining.

Catie Bloom has everything she could ever wish for - a successful job, a following for her house-keeping blog, a husband, she's a great cook. Everything's perfect. Except that it's all a lie since she has no husband and would burn toast. I thought the concept of this story was great. Catie Bloom had found herself at a point in her career that she managed to get based on assumptions (i.e. readers thinking that she had a husband and could cook etc.), but she took it to a whole other level when she agreed to do the homecoming filming - something that she didn't want to do until her blogging nemesis was mentioned.

I loved the story at first. It seemed to flow well, was easy to read and fairly entertaining. My only qualm was that, at times, I'd forget whose point of view (Catie or Natalie) it was being written from because the writing was the same and their thoughts were rather the same. But then Catie's character started to annoy me, relying so heavily on her sister (even when she's injured) and everyone else she'd managed to tangle in her web of lies, and being so egotistical and whiny.

Overall, it was a fairly good read with some funny parts throughout, but I found it harder to read the closer to the end I got.

This is a funny and heartwarming story. The characters are real and I think the kind of behind the scene storyline is realistic, I could see this is real life. It was easy and light read when I wanted something entertaining but not too deep. I would definitely recommend it.

It was a very interesting ride, but it felt a little bit too contrived to be believable. I loved the character of Natalie, she was so sweet and loyal to a fault. But Catie....I'm not sure she ever had any real backbone, especially when it came to standing up for herself. Sure she did in the end, but IMO- it was too late.

I can't imagine telling so many lies and yet pulling it all off like Catie did, but it worked for her until it didn't. She found herself in a crazy whirlwind of activities, all based on what people didn't know were her lies. Great story with fantastic characters. I enjoyed it.

Well, it's not a bad read. It is well written. It is a sweet romantic novel, so it is definitely PG13 rated. I liked the overall story, but I feel like I can't give a thorough review simply because I was expecting more. I feel like something is missing. I can't put my finger on it, but I don't feel like it is a complete story. Aside from that, I had hoped for slightly more romance. Perhaps this would be a better suited read for women in their early 20s to read beachside. I'm in my late 30s with kids....I was hoping for more depth, substance, character attachment, and even slightly more romance. I don't want a raunchy read, but something more than PG13 rated romance would be preferred.

An amusing story for free. I liked the idea behind the fake cooking show entertainer theme, though the entire story could have been just as good or better if there were more focus on the plot of the sisters and the mishaps in their careers and if it weren't written for the romance genre. It keeps unnecessarily including emotional exclamations about how much they like these guys at completely irrelevant moments that feels very forced. The story could have been just as amusing and entertaining without the romance aspect which to me personally feels cliche and over used in this instance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Writing was good, but I didn’t like the characters
Reviewed in Australia on February 1, 2022
I kept waiting to start liking the characters. Catie was hard to like and get behind, she came across as self-centered and manipulative at times. But maybe it’s a personal thing since I highly value integrity. I wasn’t sure if I wanted Catie to get together with Sam. Perhaps if we’d had Sam’s POV it would’ve given an opportunity to see what he saw in her. I liked Sam well enough, for the little that I know about him. It felt like he was accessory in the MC’s life not an MC himself.

Having said that, the writing is good and it didn’t stop me from finishing the book.

Clean but with swearing for those that care about such things.
