I totally didn't expect that ending but boy oh boy am I excited, happy, giddy, and I could go on and on but I'll spare you. Raising Ryann was a 5 star read for me! The author did a brilliant job. Everything about this story captured my attention. I fell in love from the very first page! Reese's character was one of the things I liked, she never let anything hold her back. Luke was such a protector you wouldn't have believed a bad boy could be so sweet. I'm really looking forward to reading book 2!! I do not do reviews very often, but I feel the need to spread the love on this one. Great story, great read, great characters. I loved the buildup, the anticipation and the back and forth games between Reese and Luke. Luke is your typical alpha male very, very hot, possessive and protective, but not over the top where it's almost unbelievable and annoying. I like him, almost as much as I like Travis from BD ;). Great BOOK!!!!!!! It was tastefully written.

Loved, loved, loved this book. Hate, hate, hate the huge monsterous cliffhanger! This book was a great read, it is filled with the drama, angst, and steamy, dreamy couples!

The story starts off with Reese and you learn her history and then you fall in love with the strong, powerful woman she has become. Then enter Ryann and he is everything you want in an alpha male, and I mean EVERYTHING! There is history between the two, and I won’t say anymore on the topic but there story is a dangerous journey. You fall in love with them and then you are left with your jaw hanging on the floor and alot of feeling you will have trouble processing. So I am sitting here wondering what the heck happened but don’t worry, book 2, Resisting Ryann, just came out. Unfortunately this is a trilogy and since Alyssa Rae Taylor is a gypsy master of cliffhangers I feel like I will end up anxiously waiting for book 3!

This series is definitely one of my new favorites! The author does a great job telling an intriguing love story, and has created a unique story line in bringing the two main characters together.

Luke Ryann is an ex MMA fighter, and Reese teaches a self-defense class. When they are paired up to work together, Luke soon realizes that they had met several years before, under traumatic circumstances. Although the sexual chemistry is there, they both attempt to fight their feelings.

I don't want to give too much away about the story, but what I will say is that one of the things that I really enjoyed about this book was the dialogue. There is a lot of humor and banter between many of the characters, and it makes the story and characters both very believable and relatable.

I also like that it's not just fluff and romance. There are some other things going on in the story -- a little bit of action, a little bit of danger, heroism, and secrets that will eventually surface. There are definitely some sexy scenes too; although nothing that is overly graphic.

I enjoyed the love story between Luke and Reese, and the author tends to play with the readers' emotions by pushing these two characters together and then pulling them apart several times. But, hey, that's nothing new, right? ;) The sexual chemistry/tension is so vivid, that I felt like I was feeling what the characters were feeling. I was completely drawn into these characters, and I felt like I really cared about them and got to know them. I was sad when the series was over.

This is only book 1 of the series, so be prepared to purchase all three books, because you will simply NEED to know what happens to these two characters! I was away with my husband for our three-year anniversary, and read this series in a few days. It was just the kind of romance I was looking to read while on vacation!

I know the series is completely, but I'll definitely be looking for anything new Alyssa Rae Taylor writes!

I really wanted to love this story because I could relate so well to the characters but there were some major problems with the story line and the ending that I couldn't get past. With that said, I will be reading future books in this series mainly because I want to see Reece & Ryann get their HEA (happily ever after).

The things I related to:
1. Having something bad happen to me as a teenager-Check
2. Having my future boyfriend now husband stand up to my dad when he was being abusive-check
3. Teaching self defense classes in college because of what happened to me-check

The things that I liked:
1. Development of the characters and their relationship-I liked that they didn't immediately fall in bed together. Their friendship and eventual relationship grew at a realistic pace. It was nice to see Ryann realize that he deserved to have Reece in his life.

2. Mostly easy to read-the story line quickly drew me in and I read the whole book in one sitting.

3. Supporting characters-I like the friends of both Reece and Ryann and I hope there will be future stories about them.

The problem areas:
1. CLIFFHANGER!!! That should be enough said on the topic but I really hate when books aren't completed in one book. If a story line is to be written in multiple books, that information should be included in the book synopsis. We shouldn't have to hunt around and read all the reviews to find this information. As a reader, I get emotionally involved with the characters I'm reading about. I feel ripped off if I have to wait for future books to find out if they get their HEA.

2. Disjointed story lines-As I mentioned above the story was mostly easy to read but there were things that were in the beginning part of the story that weren't addressed at all in the rest of the story. I hate giving away spoilers so the only one I will mention is the owners of the gym. Reece talks to one on the phone while they are away for a week. Given the timeline of the story they should have been back before the first part of the story ends. Since the gym owners are very close to Reece and Ryann, they should have been in the book before the end of the story.

***SPOILER ALERT***
3. Decision that Ryann makes at the end of the story-I'm gonna be as vague as possible here. Since Reece got onto the radar of a certain person, Ryann's decision at the end of the story does the opposite of protecting her in my opinion.

I bought this book yesterday at 3h30 A.M. because I couldn't sleep anymore and hoped it could get me to sleep, but it didn't it kept me wide awake wanting to finish it until real life cought up and I had to leave it. But it was ok because the Heroes seemed to have figured things out and where on a good track. So guess my surprise this morning when I continued reading and things changed. I saw the percentage of my reading on my kindle come closer and closer to 100 % and things getting... well not so great. I panicked that Mrs. Taylor had no way of giving my my desired HEA. And well... it ends with a cliffhanger and I just need the next one... and there is no publishing date yet... sometimes 2014....

That really messed up with me.
And I believe this is a sign that I enjoyed the book.

After a very difficult youth Luke Ryann is a MMA champion, who professionally has reached everything he ever wanted. When he stopps fighting to settle down as a trainer in the gym owned by his former forster parents he is taken aback when he sets his eyes on the girl next door that has grown up to a strong an amazing woman.
Reese Johnson is irritated by Luke when he shows up at the gym she is working at. He is beautifull and sweet but also irritating like hell. Somehow she has the feeling she knows him but can't at figure out where from ... at first.
When she remembers him she does not understand why he kept her in the dark about him having saved her in the most difficult moments of her past.
After a difficult start the figure out that their souls simply belong to each other; when their past comes back hunting them however, who will protect whom?

The main characters are great; when they are honest to each other it is amazingly sweet. The heat between them is palpable even if they don't make it happen. Some scenes make you smile others leave you breathless and yet others surprise the reader. I really enjoyed the banter between the two.
Luke is such a great alpha-male that you want to keep him around and Reese is a strong and sweet woman.
The heavy issues that the story is about are a real gain for the story and the reader.
The story flows and is a nice read. I only had some trouble when things got intense suddenly we jump to a later moment and I just missed a week during which so much could have happened.

And of course I have my trouble being frustrated because of the cliffhanger, but that is maybe only me.

So for those who didn't understand: I liked the story a lot and will look forward to read the next one... in 2014!

Reese is a twenty yr old who's had a difficult life. She teaches self defense for young girls at a gym. Luke Ryann is a retired MMA fighter even though he's only 25 and comes to work at the gym. Reese feels an instant connection with him and its something she has never felt before.
It takes her a bit of time to realise that Luke is actually the teenager who saved her on more than one occassion when she was a young girl.
I loved these characters, Reese was a kick ass girl, who didn't take no shit, Luke is typical aplha male, who tries hard to fight his attraction to Reese. I loved the banter between these to and i quickly got into the book and characters. Luke has dark secrets and is trying to protect Reese. Oh hell the chemistry and sexual tension between these two was hot hot hot!!!!! I expected lots of sex but hell there was none !!!! Yet i still loved this story. My biggest complaint, is it ended too soon and the cliffhanger !!!!!!!!!! OMG ARRGGGGHHHHH I can't wait for the next book !! Next year is too long !!
