Product Description
The LAMY 2000 has been writing design history since 1966. As a timeless classic it is still one of the most modern writing instruments today. Function alone determines form. With this design principle Lamy has won the hearts of many design enthusiasts throughout the world. And this all started with the LAMY 2000. When it made its first appearance in the shop windows in 1966, it was the first writing instrument of the modern era which did not seek to be a status symbol but simply an honest, high-precision tool for writing by hand. Made of modern materials, stainless steel and Macrolon.

1) It is a day to day workhorse. The finish is rugged and the kind of finish that mellows with age and actually improves with the trauma of a week's use. The fiberglass/resin has a very slightly coarse finish that wears down after one week and then you can't tell a 10 year old 2000 from a 7 day old one. The finish looks great always. No cringing when you drop it--it'll be just fine. Ladies can just throw it in a purse and let in knock around with anything else--it'll be just fine.
2) Lightweight--does not pull down on the chest pocket. Does not tire the hand.
3) Perfect size--not real skinny--not a big stubby bulky thing.
4) The clip is rock solid and there is no challenge moving in or out of the pocket.
5) Click mechanism is rock solid--can RARELY jam-up but with a little twiddling it'll fix itself.
6) Pen itself is solid--not rattling or creaky/clicky when writing with this pen.
7) Dress it up, dress it down--great with a three piece suit, great with jeans.
8) Lamy ink refill is consistent--ink is a little dry and doesn't glide across paper like some but gives a good feel--kinda like driving a nibble sports car where you feel the road rather than a floaty Cadillac. Also the ink does not tend to form those gunky bits at the tip of the pen that need to be cleaned. I like the broad refill myself. Did I mention that the refills last a really long time?
9) The pen itself is accompanied with a bit of history--at least the fountain pen is and well this is a derivative of that.
I promise...for those who don't mind spending a few extra dollars on a pen...and don't lose them...this is the go to pen. And if you do lose it--at least it wasn't a 300 dollar Mont Blanc.
Some people have said the shape isn't good but this fits my hand perfectly. The design is sublime. What really sold me on this was that it was stainless steel and Macrolon. Now I know that's just a fancy word for plastic (polycarbonate if you want to get picky). But I knew it would be light and I was right. It just floats in your hand. The color and the brushed finish are beautiful.
I would give it 5 stars across the board but I had to deduct for the "Value for money" category. This pen is pricey, and if you don't put real monetary value on the design and materials you might feel ripped off. I generally don't view art through the lens of "value," but I do value this pen as art.
Update: I recommend the LAMY fine blue refill over the default LAMY medium black refill, as the former writes more smoothly and satisfyingly.
It is a simple, understated and elegant pen that writes beautifully and
is ergonomic and attractive - my new favorite pen !
