UPDATE: I discovered that the minimum volume issue was actually an iOS thing - playing from Alexa gives me MUCH better volume control, including very low minimums, as low as I'd ever want. And in the last few days that I have used these speakers I have absolutely loved them. I heard things in songs I've never heard before, even outdoors. As a side note, I discovered you can link your Apple music to Alexa, so now I can get the best of both worlds by playing my apple music through an Echo device connected to the speakers. So great job Amazon - Apple, step it up, Alexa is kicking Siri's butt (and that's coming from a big Apple fan boy). And as another side note that means I pretty much can just leave that Echo always connected all the time and don't have to hear the annoying (and still super loud) "CONNECTED" and "PAIRING" voice every time I use the speakers.
Also - a lot of the bluetooth speakers out there that come in pairs (no pun intended) say they are stereo, when in reality both channels are simply duplicated (or are just mono) to the second speaker. These are truly stereo, giving you true left channel on one speaker and right channel on the other, which is awesome. So when listening to Bohemian Rhapsody you get that nice "little high" completely on one speaker, and the following "little low" on the other. Of course, that's just a simple example. Having a true stereo experience for many songs makes a huge difference in the quality and listening experience.

Overall the sound quality of these is great for the money. However there is one flaw, at least in the way I'm using them, that I never anticipated: they don't go quiet enough. When it's late at night and all is quiet, these just don't go quiet enough to sit on the deck or in a hot tub and have background music that you can still have a conversation over, unless you decide to have that conversation a good 25 feet or more away from the speakers. The music is loud enough that it's competing with regular conversation. When controlling the volume from a Bluetooth connected device, the volume completely cuts out when you still have two or three more incremental levels to decrease volume. And the lowest the speakers will go before being completely off is just too loud. I thought I'd be worried about them not being loud enough, never considered they wouldn't be quiet enough. Where they don't have an independent volume control, there's just nothing you can do about it. The music is either off or too loud. Along these same lines, when you disconnect, the speakers will announce that they are now in pairing mode
In a REALLY loud voice, regardless of what the volume of your device was when disconnecting. So after that nice quiet (but not quiet enough) evening experience on the deck with background music, the "Bluetooth lady" shouts PAIRING!!!! at you as you head inside.
Party on the deck or just working or chilling outside? These are great. The sound quality is clear at low to mid volume (not just loud bass, but clean lows, mid ranges, and highs). I've found that the "rock" preset in the Apple EQ settings on an iPhone give a really nice sound with these. The sound is a little muddier at high volumes, but it does go louder than I expected and still exceeds my expectations in quality for this price range.
I'm going to have to experiment with putting these further away than where I wanted from where those night time quiet deck moments tend to happen, just to get the volume down.

Mostly good things to say
This review will look a lot like the other reviews seen here. I love the speakers! They're much bigger than I expected, but are exactly what my husband expected, I guess I just didn't think about the math about how big they'd be, about a foot tall each. They are heavy duty speakers with nice, heavy duty brackets to mount them. They haven't been through much weather yet, but after a little are still working like a charm. The couple small downsides, there is a large box on the cord, like what would be on a laptop power cord. We just have it laid on top of our light fixture, as our speakers are mounted near the ceiling, not the most attractive look, but we dis what we could with what we had. Also, as other reviews have stated, the 2nd speaker, not connected to the power, crackles a little. Not enough to cause me to send them back, but it's definitely there. We tried different audio inputs and reconnecting the wires, but to no avail. I contacted the company, who wanted me to try to speaker on other receivers to see if the issue was from the secondary speaker or the primary speaker which is powered. But by the time I heard back from them we already had them mounted and haven't done much since then. As long as they're mounted and there's no dead time (with no sound at all playing through the speakers) you don't notice it. I think they go plenty loud, but understand people saying they're kind of quiet. They don't blast as loud as I'd like on some of my favorite tunes, but for the deck, they're fine. Hopefully they last a long time. I hesitated to spend so much money on a brand name I didn't recognise, but so far they've been mostly great.
