Customers are mixed about the quality of the pet supplies. Some mention that their animals like the water fountain, it holds quite a bit of water, and is a great option for kitties who are left alone for periods of time as fresh. All three of my cats LOVE it. My skittish girl Ellie really likes to play in it, and Alex (the flippant boy) loves it to pieces. Sparta has been drinking significantly more, which is the reason I bought it; he gets UTIs and I thought this might encourage him to drink more since it's like a tap he can use all the time! He really seems to like it. It's definitely helped us cut back on vet bills... though I still take him often, he's been hospitalized once for UTI-related issues since I got this fifteen months ago, compared to three times in the six months before I got it.
Pros:
-Good for 1-3 cats (would not recommend for 4+)
-Cats seem to like it
-Has adjustable rates of flow
-Filters aren't INSANELY expensive...
-Disassembles easily for cleaning (pump moderately difficult to get apart)
-Cats CANNOT knock it over. Ellie has tried. Ellie can knock over anything. Ellie has failed for the last fifteen months. 5 stars for that alone.
-The cord is really long; It's 4-6 feet which is great.
Cons:
-Pump tends to gunk up with cat hair. I clean it every two weeks, but honestly would recommend every week for fluffy cats.
-Pump tube to get the water to the top is really hard to clean! I've been using a baby bottle brush kit, which works decently.
-Box at the wall plug gets super hot. Would not put near melty or flamable items.... this has not been an issue but you know if you bump it. NEEDS AIR FLOW.
Though I do need to refill it daily (1-2 small dixie cups, is all), it's great when I'm home! When I'm gone for a few days I unplug it and use a large bowl instead, since I don't want it to get too low and burn out the pump. They still drink from this one if it's still, and I've come back to this one low and the other untouched entirely.
If I bought again, I'd get the one with the back tank. Though really, it gets cleaned more often without it... that's a tough one.
The machine is noisy ONLY when the water level is too low. The fountain is quiet when the water reaches up to about 1/2 inch from the rim. If your fountain is whining and groaning then add water.
Also, regular cleaning maintenance is needed. One of my cats is a long hair Maine Coon-ish type cat. Her hair gets everywhere and the fountain intake is no exception. There are finger grips on the housing so one can take apart the fountain housing and clean around the little motor. I have to clean it about once a month to remove kitty fuzz as well as kibble crumbs and general mold growth and hard water deposits that have accumulated. Every time I do this it results in an efficient little kitty drinking fountain.
I don't worry too much about the filter cartridges. In fact I used the ones that came with the unit and haven't bought another pack. The filters don't prevent debris from catching in the intake area and cats don't really appreciate the carbon filtered water taste. I mean, c'mon, they're cats.
The cats took a while to get used to the idea that there is a drinking fountain 24/7 and that they no longer have to beg to drink water in every sink in the house. The oldest cat took the longest time to get used to the fountain--about 2 weeks--but eventually they all adapted, though, if given the opportunity they will all still prefer to drink from the toilet.
I highly recommend this fountain.
Update:
I've had this baby for about 2 years now. I thought for sure this plastic fountain would kick the bucket w/in a year. Not so. I just have to keep it clean by taking it apart and scrubbing the scum off it as mentioned in the initial review. I've since discovered that the reservoir attachment (sold separately) is a piece of junk and it slowly leaked and damaged my floor. Grr. But the fountain itself is fine and so I tossed the reservoir attachment and just use the fountain.
When you take the fountain apart to clean it, you can even take off the little motor that's attached by suction cups and get the junk out of it. I've even been able to pry the cap off it and scrub the tiny grill.
Don't clean this fountain with harsh chemicals like bleach or 409. Just use vinegar and invest in some small wire scrub brushes.

Also VERY IMPORTANT do not give any negative review to the seller as they will keep on calling you like every half an hour until you remove that review. Kudos to the seller for managing ratings.
