Product Description
Dual External Antennas Provide Strong Signal Strength
The adapter has dual external 3 dBi omni-directional antennas that deliver stronger signal penetration strength and wider wireless coverage than its standard counterparts. The antennas can be adjusted 180 degrees to get the best signal reception. When not in use, the antennas can be folded for convenient storage and mobility.
300Mbps Wireless N Speed
The TL-WN822N complies with wireless 802.11 b/g/n standards and transmits data at up to 300Mbps. It adopts the Mutiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) technologies to provide better wireless performance and stability than previous generations. The adapter supports WEP, WPA/WPA2, and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryptions.
Easy Setup
If your computer's operating system doesn't install the driver of the TL-WN822N automatically after plug-in, you just need to install the driver from the bundled CD or from TP-LINK's website. After the driver is installed, you can use the built-in wireless utility in your operating system to connect to a wireless network. If you want to use advanced features of the adapter such as Soft AP, you can install the TP-LINK utility to access those functions.
Create a Hotspot with the SoftAP Feature
Whenever there is only wired Internet connection, you can activate the SoftAP function of the TL-WN822N after installing the bundled utility software, and create a Wi-Fi hotspot for mobile devices. This feature is useful when travelling to places where there is only one cable for Internet and mutiple people have to use the Internet.

This antenna arrived about a week ago, so we've had plenty of time to test it. Installation was simple. Plug the unit in, run the enclosed CD, click on to the network, enter the pass code, and that was it. My wife's computer problems are gone! All websites snap right up. Not one problem with any of them.
We have a custom program on her computer that we use to run our business. Running it on my computer from hers, over the network was always slower than running it on her computer. That was to be expected. Now it runs about 50% faster across the network.
I installed this antenna on my computer (Windows 8.1) just to see what would happen. Amazingly, it sped page loads up dramatically, even though I'm within about 30 feet of the router (albeit the signal still has to go through two walls), and did not have nearly as many problems as she did. I have just ordered a second one to go on my computer for that reason, and because I expect our in-house program will run even faster across the network using one on each computer. I will update this review after I find out.
Given the results with this antenna on our two computers, I enthusiastically recommend it so anyone who suspects a internet connection problem, even if it's only a small one. I simply cannot believe the results, especially at this price. Amazing!
01/15/15: I received my second antenna about a week ago. As expected (hopes for!), it did speed interaction across the network between our computers. No more hung pages on the internet. I can't wait to see how it works in hotels when we travel.
Disabled the existing Intel Centrino wifi (built in to the laptop). This step could probably be skipped, not sure. The installation booklet didn't mention doing this, but it seemed like a good idea.
Plugged in the N300. Windows 7 couldn't find the driver, which was expected. I closed that notification.
Inserted the CD. Autorun started and I clicked on the install file.
I selected the UBS device from 3 listed.
Waited about 3 minutes and it was done. Pretty easy.
I think this solution worked because it wasn't my router's WiFi range, it was my laptop's WiFi range. It might not be the fix for someone who is truly out of range, at which point an extender or high gain router antenna replacement might be the next step. But for 17 bucks, it is a cheap first step in the troubleshooting process and it worked for me.
When I originally tried to install the software for this piece of equipment, it seemed to install just fine. But when I checked the icon to see if it was working, the list of available connections indicated "Connected," but at the top of the list where it says if your PC is connected or not said, "Disconnected." Say what? How can I be both simultaneously connected and disconnected? And by the way, I didn't have internet access, so it was clearly disconnected.
I uninstalled the software, then reinstalled it. I'm not sure what was different, though I did notice that after I clicked the correct button to install it, there was a very long delay of a good 10 to 15 seconds before the next screen popped up. I didn't recall that happening the first time (though I'm sure I installed it properly). In any case, be patient as it installs. I have a refurbished Windows 7 machine that is less than 6 months old so it should have gone quickly, but had that long wait.
Once re-installed, it worked perfectly, and has been on our computer for a good week or so now with no issues. Our younger daughter watches a fair amount of YouTube and Hulu content, and it seems to work okay for that so far. The wireless adapter is a good 20 feet away from the wireless router, which is one full floor lower as well, and it has full five-bar connectivity. I gave it four stars due to the installation issues, and the fact that the instructions did not have a Q&A section that addressed the problem I had, so hopefully others will find this useful if they have a similar problem. But overall, now it's working well, and I'm fairly satisfied with it; just not the initial frustration.
