Product Description
It's all about accepting ourselves and loving our curls!
Meet Jess McGuinty - Jessicurl's Founder
Somewhere around the time that puberty struck, my hair grew more and more coarse and eventually started to curl. I was mortified and at a total loss for how to deal with it. My dad, the one who gave me the curls, was sympathetic but his motto when it came to “our” hair was “bigger is better”. As a self-conscious 14 year old who didn’t want to stand out, that wasn’t very helpful either.
As I grew up, my hatred of my hair didn't dissipate. In 2002 I figured there had to be a better way, and typed "curly hair" into Google to see what the internet had to offer.
The first thing that came up was the naturallycurly website. I was thrilled to find that there was an entire community of curly haired people who shared the same struggles as I did. Who knew? I quickly made many "cyber friends" with whom I traded hair tips and horror stories.
One day I came across a very basic recipe for a hair gel and I remember thinking, "Wow, how cool would it be if I could just make my OWN hair gel?"
What is Jessicurl?
Jessicurl is a line of products for people for curly hair. But Jessicurl is also a person – Me, Jess McGuinty, the founder of the company. It’s also a philosophy. One where you are not only allowed but ENCOURAGED to love your curly hair in its natural state, stop straightening it, and realize that You Have the Right To Remain Curly! Of course the high quality products make it that much easier!
The Philosophy of Jessicurl's Ingredients
I developed the Jessicurl line after realizing that most hair products on the market contain ingredients that are bad for my hair. It seemed like everything had drying alcohols in hair gels or harsh detergents in shampoos. Like the people running it didn't know that there were certain ingredients to avoid in curly hair products. Nothing treated my naturally curly hair with the respect it deserved.
All Jessicurl Products Are:
- Vegan
- Gluten Free
- Cruelty Free
- Silicone Free
- Paraben Free
- SLS/SLES Free
Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion - The Product That Started It All
Ingredients like flaxseed extract and glycerin turn Rockin’ Ringlets Styling Position into a powerful curl enhancer. Its silky consistency slides easily into even the thickest hair for perfect distribution that coats each curl. You can watch those curls take shape. Rockin’ Ringlets works to encourage your waves into curls that are so soft, you’ll want to touch them. Follow Rockin’ Ringlets Styling Position with Confident Coils Styling Solution for added hold that will get you all the way through your day with hair so fabulous you’ll have a bounce in your step to match the bounce in your hair.
Shake bottle and apply evenly into soaking wet hair. Scrunch to encourage curls and air dry or dry with a diffuser. If crunch occurs after drying, just scrunch it out. Since Gelebration Spray is thicker than water, it doesn’t come out of the bottle in a fine mist; rather, it comes out in a stream. An alternate method of application is to spray it into your hands and scrunch it in.
Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion - A Journey Together
One day I came across a very basic recipe for a hair gel made out of flax seeds. I remember thinking, "Wow, how cool would it be if I could just make my OWN hair gel?" I tried that very basic recipe, and the results were less than stellar. By this time I was inspired, however, so I tweaked the recipe, adding other natural ingredients that I had learned are good for curly hair. The results were nothing short of miraculous. I was shocked that FINALLY my hair looked like I wanted, and I had made the product on my stove!
With much exuberance, I went back to the NaturallyCurly message boards and excitedly shared the recipe with my newfound friends. (The thought of going into business hadn't crossed my mind.) After posting my recipe I was flooded with emails from curly headed members asking if they could just buy some of the magic potion from me, as they really didn't feel like making it. The rest, as they say, is history! Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion was born.
Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion - Jess' Way
After leaving in my conditioner for about 5 minutes I take it down and gently comb with a wide tooth comb to detangle and get all the shed hairs out. Once it’s all detangled, I rinse upside down to encourage volume at the roots.
While my hair is still soaking wet (and still upside down) I put a quarter- sized dollop of Too Shea, and a puddle of Rockin’ Ringlets into my palm, rub my hands together and rake that through my hair 4-5 times. (Yes, you can totally use Too Shea as a leave in – I do it every day! ) I then scrunch (with my head still upside down) about 5-6 times, then scrunch in a puddle of Spiralicious Styling Gel.
Then I grab my microfiber towel (which of course is hanging by the shower in easy reach) and scrunch with that 7-8 times to soak out the excess water and help the ringlets form better.
I follow that with one more small puddle of the Rockin' Ringlets/Spiralicious combo just so I get enough product in there.

One major difference between the Curlsmith and the Jessicurl was that my hair curled up while the Jessicurl deep conditioner was in it. With the Curlsmith Deep Quencher, my hair went flat while the product was in it.
I rinsed out the Jessicurl Deep Conditioner and followed it with a bit of the Too Shea for a leave-in because I wasn't sure if the Deep Conditioner would be too heavy (even though the instructions say you can use it for a leave-in). The Too-Shea gave me good moisture as a leave-in. I followed that with the Spiralicious Gel. These are the best results I've gotten in quite a while. My hair is color-treated and tends to be very dry. It drinks up conditioner, but I didn't need to use nearly as much of the Jessicurl as I do with other conditioners. My curls clumped much better than they have been too.
I think my hair is between fine/normal, 2b/3a (depending on how healthy it is), and medium/high porosity (based on Curlsmith's test it seems like it may be high porosity because it absorbs a lot of product and gets wet quickly, but it can take a while to dry. I think that's because it's dense, though.)
I'm pretty excited about the Jessicurl products as I usually can't use all the products in a single line and they are looking really good so far. I'm completely sold on the Deep Conditioner.
Ya’ know how when you rinse out conditioner, you feel all the slipperiness as you wash it out? With this conditioner, I don’t feel that. It’s as if my hair is soaking up all the goodness, instead of it just sitting on the outside of my hair and then rinsing it away.
I first bought some trial size products from the Jessicurl website to try them out. I loved all but the hairspray. The little trial size bottle of deep conditioner lasted me over 2 months, after which I ordered a full size product on subscribe and save. I do deep conditioning treatments every 2-4 weeks now and I won’t go without this conditioner. It is protein-free, which I like. I also buy the fragrance-free version since my skin is sensitive. All Jessicurl products have fragrance-free options, which I really appreciate!
As for how it works and moisturizes, it's fantastic. I will use it again, BUT I now know to be prep lolared to smell like spaghetti sauce.
I have tight, coily curls (somewhere in the type 4 range). Lately, I've been doing the "maximum hydration method" by pinkie cube to increase moisture and bring out my curls. This is one of the recommended conditioners. As part of the maximum hydration method, I dilute the conditioner down with water and use it as my cowash, deep conditioner, and leave-in conditioner.
I've used it with a hair steamer and I've also used it with just a plastic cap to deep condition my hair. Both deep conditioning methods leave my hair soft and moisturized.
Pros:
It does a wonderful job moisturizing my hair.
It's unscented. (I try to avoid products with a lot of fragrance.)
It's wonderfully thick if you want to use it undiluted, but it's still very effective if you dilute it with water. A little goes a long way.
Lots of natural ingredients.
It leaves my hair soft.
Cons:
It is a bit expensive (although diluting it does help it last longer.)
It's so thick that it's a bit difficult to get it out of the bottle without turning the bottle upside down and whacking it against my hand.

Soft and cared for . Pleasantly surprised . I like that it had no silicones too and scent is barely there I just smell some shea butter if anything . I will continue to use this to repair my dry hair .
