Setting this thing up was so easy. First, I plugged my transmitter into the HDMI out of my Yamaha and used the USB port from my BluRay player to power it. Second, I plugged the receiver end into the HDMI in of my Epson 8350. I powered the receiver end using the supplied power plug and turned everything else on. Those three steps took 5 minutes and I had a picture up on the projector screen.
I am only using the setup with a distance of 15 feet between transmitter and receiver so I cant currently speak to how it works at long distance or through walls. I have only had the product in my possession for 5 days so i cant speak to reliability either. I do plan to test distance, so I will update with that information later.
It is important to note that I have two wireless routers in the house which do not appear to be impacted and do not seem to impact the wireless HDMI performance. Also, in the same room I have wirless speakers running, which do not seem to be impacted either.
In summary, I highly recommend the product based upon my experience up to this point.
Update: I've being using it now for several months and it is very reliable. I love the USB power option and power it from my DirecTV HR24 tuner. There is absolutely no delay or quality reduction in video or audio. Great product if this continues to last.
Update 2018: it is very consistent at about 60 feet, but beyond that it can destabilize. You also need to try different usb power to source if you power it that way. Wrong power overheats it and it stabilizes.
I wanted to watch TV in a room that has foot traffic, but that room has large windows&walls that made it nearly impossible to fish through a cable. I was hoping to find some sort of transmitter/receiver solution. My audio/visual expert neighbor said my hoped-for solution was impossible, or at least not on the market.
But the Amazon description of the Nyrius Aries HDMI seemed like a perfect solution. HDMI connections imply simple hookups, especially important for TV mounted on a mobile cart (so a minimum number of trailing cables is helpful.)
Which Nyrius Aries version to get, the 25 or 100 foot? My cable box is about 20 feet away from the TV. But my FIOS cable box is in an adjacent room, so I figured that transmission would be further attenuated by two layers of sheet rock plus a solid wood panel. So I chose the 100 foot version.
Using the included USB power supply, the setup worked perfectly. The package includes a right-angle HDMI bender adapter, which I very much appreciated, solving the issue of my cable box in a tight space, with little depth behind the cable box.
But there's more happiness to the story! I was a bit annoyed that the Nyrius Aries receiver requires 2 amps, and thus a beefy USB power supply that you can't draw from the built-in USB port at the back of my LG TV. A 2 amps supply requirement for the receiver is double the supply requirement for running the transmitter! That specified ratio doesn't make sense to me.
Being a natural skeptic, I measured for myself my Nyrius Aries receiver's actual current draw, which was only .09 amps, not the claimed 2 amps. Therefore one might expect that my TV would easily provide the necessary power for the Nyrius receiver. So it was worth a test, which proved that my TV's built-in USB power source did indeed supply enough amperage. I thus found no need for the (included) separate beefy USB power supply. All I needed was to connect a USB-to-mini cable from my TV USB port to the Nyrius receiver. In other words, my TV's light-duty electricity cord (or simple extension coord if you need more length) is now the only cable of any sort between my TV and the wall.
Tip: I securely mounted my Nyrius Aries receiver unit directly on the back of my TV, using 3M Command brand "Mini Clips", which fit perfectly into the two keyhole slots thoughtfully molded underneath the receiver unit. You'll have to break off the Nyrius receiver unit's rubber feet stanchions, no problem since the stanchions easily fall off anyway.
Not important to me:
a) It's possible that the resulting picture quality isn't as perfect as from a traditional coaxial cable hookup (even though my Nyrius Aries system is reporting that I'm in HD 1080 mode,) but maybe that's only when I'm critically looking closely at the screen from a few inches away.
b) I purchased an IR cable box extender device for ~ten bucks, then fed its simple thin cable through a wall, so that my FIOS remote control clicker will command the set top FIOS cable box located in a closet in adjacemt room.
Talk about a minimalist overall implementation, way beyond my expectations. Am extremely happy with the Nyrius Aries HDMI transmitter/receiver product.
There is also extreme digital noise in the signal on the Pro models. Once the unit warms up, video sync is wildly unstable, especially when running the unit through a receiver or media player, such as a Roku. I have to power cycle the units very frequently and there is no way to lock down the resolution mode so you'll have long delays when using with a 720P display, as the receiver wants to stay in 1080 mode far too long. I tested interference significantly. These units were taken up to the mountains where there is NO interference on the 5.15~5.85GHz frequency in which these devices operate. No microwaves, no telephones, no nearby cellphones, wifi, etc. Again, the Prime model outperformed the Pro model by far when obstructions, such as walls, were present. It's worth noting that the Prime model actually has a wider frequency range available: 4.9~5.9GHz.
As an important note, these devices work best with an actual computer. Running media devices, receivers, dvd players, etc. are not stable with the transmitter.
As a technical FYI: The receiver requires 2A @ 5V power supply (included) and the transmitter requires 1A @ 5V power supply (not included). The devices supports PCM, DTS, and DD5.1 audio formats. The devices supports the following video formats: TV: 1080p, 1080i,720p, 576p, 480p PC : 1920x1080, 1280x1024, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480.
