I have a confession... when my author friend Renee Lovins told me the basis for this book, I found it very original & interesting but I didn't think she could make it believable. I bought it & honestly prepared to push my way through it & find something nice & supportive to say to her when she asked what I thought. My other concern was that, while I am addicted to romance books, contemporary romance isn't my usual genre.

I'm happy to say I was completely blown away by the book. She totally pulled off a love story with a handsome man & a woman who is a severely scarred burn survivor. I bought it yesterday & am over 90% finished. AMAZING writing, characters, and storytelling. She even made me cry (had nothing to do with the romance, it was a very touching scene with a minor character). Bravo Renee Lovins!

I love the relationship that develops between the two protagonists. I love the way he saw her, without fetishizing her, but still paying attention to who she was. His view of her was visceral, and her view of herself was likewise honest, even as it changed.

The twists and turns of the plot kept me reading.

I am glad that the ending stayed real, without miraculous intervention. There was a bit too much happy ever after - all of the relationships got fixed, but I am glad for each healing done.
