I loved the notion of sharing what I had been through to bring the fans my films. I then started thinking about some of the other filmmaker friends mine who had encountered similar problems with their films. It then dawned on me that no one has ever made a documentary premised on what indie filmmakers go through to get their art shown. At times may of us have put our lives and livelihood on the line, not to mention our freedom so that we can bring to you our vision, our heart and soul. I decided that this is a documentary that I need to make. That I was perhaps put here to create. And even if I never make another film again, this documentary would be something that I can always be proud of. With that said, what started out to be an extra DVD feature for the anniversary edition of Samhain: Night Feast soon took on a life of it's own. The life that you know know it is "Blood On The Reel: The Guts Behind Indie Filmmaking"

I'm always excited to see a new documentary about film. Sadly this film did not live up to the potential of its subject matter.
This one however is more of a vanity project that's trying to sneak in hiding behind the z-grade anecdotes of his filmmaking buddies. Johnny Daggers is both artist and subject in this film which heavily features interviews with Johnny Daggers, behind the scenes footage with Johnny Daggers, and interviews with friends of Johnny Daggers.
What we're looking at is a lot of filmmakers (but mostly Johnny Daggers) self-recording their own testimonials leading to a horridly uneven arc, horridly uneven quality, and the movie is about an hour and a half too long.
On the whole the film isn't interesting, and very few of the films discussed look all that interesting. It's an insiders look that nobody asked for.

Overwrought, far too "clever." While I appreciate low budget documentaries, this one was too low budget, and really seemed like little more than a semi-organized rant against people who don't like horror movies.

It actually makes me mad this guy is on my side about horror movies.
